Baked @ Devonport — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

I had the most belittling customer service experience of my life at Baked Davenport, when I was there on holiday January 2023.

I had bought a crossaint and a coffee on the 8/1/23 discovered later that day that I had been charged $29.50, so the following day I went in to the shop to have it resolved.

Not only did the blonde woman who served me blame ME for not noticing that SHE had put in the wrong amount, but I was treated with suspicion as if I had fabricated the charge CLEARLY STATED IN MY BANKING APP.

When I was LITERALLY IN TEARS IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS MIND YOU(!!!) the lady sighed and told me she'd give me $12 and we could "call it even" (WHICH WAS NOT THE AMOUNT I HAD BEEN OVERCHARGED!).

This remains to this day the most belittling customer service interaction I have ever encountered; I've worked in retail (and been shouted at by customers) and never in my life have I ever felt the need to behave as rudely or aggressively towards customers as this woman.

I will never shop there ever again.

As for the food; the croissant was really good.

I have been a customer here for many years. It's very hit and miss with the food items, some are good some are not. Everything does look lovely when you walk in. Today for the first time,I bought a lemon cake. it looked delicious displayed in the food cabinet. I was so excited to get it home to try. How sad i was, when i opened it up and it had no lemon fragrant smell. I was still hopeful so cut into it to try. But no, only more disappointment to come. It had no lemon taste at all and was very bland. I've made lemon cake for years for my family growing up, and this cake is not a lemon loaf or cake. In fact there is nothing lemon about it, other than maybe the colour. What happened Baked@ Devonport? Where's the lemons? Where's that beautiful rich moist soft lemon taste? Feel so let down, certainly not worth $12.00 :( . On a better note the custard cream donuts are delicious, thank goodness i bought some of those as a back up for the lemonless bland cake. Definitely need to rethink that lemon cake recipe ...

Needed to pick up some goodies to take when visiting friend for lunch. Popped into view and returned after a walk around Devonport... Hard to make quick decisions all Soo yummy and I did want to held up queue behind me. Decided on four cakes....hard decision...but all of enough to cut into pieces so everyone could experience a taste. The pie section was eye catching and one would have to be very very fussy if you couldn't find a pie to die for. Young woman at counter was so bright n friendly and such a benefit to the business.
