This is an elegant villa in Auckland's seaside precinct of Devonport. The accommodation consists of beautiful well appointed rooms on the second floor opening up to a tasteful central lounge where guests can help themselves to coffee, tea, filtered water and have breakfast. My room was large, spacious and had a charming balcony with superb views of the Auckland skyline. It also had an enormous bathroom, the size of my lounge at home, with a deep, relaxing claw-bath. ||||The bed I had was either Queen or King size, and it was sumptuous, full with white fluffy duvets and high thread count cottons, linens and sheets. I had such a good sleep, even though I arrived on the night that Auckland went into COVID-19 alert level 3 lockdown. As a result of that I unfortunately had to leave early. There was absolutely no problem with changing my reservation and checking out a day early. David, the hospitable owner, was really accomodating. He even meet me at the ferry terminal and drove me up to the villa. If I had known that Auckland would have remained in level 3 lockdown (and not moved to a level 4 lockdown with a stay in place order, which was my concern and why I returned to Dunedin as soon as I could), then I would have stayed here anyway. Even though there was a lockdown in Auckland, I could have just spent the next day relaxing, lying in the claw bath and watching Netflix on my computer. It would have been perfect even with lockdown. ||||Now that lockdown in Auckland is over, I unreservedly recommend this Guest House. There is a shortage of standard retail hotel accomodation in Auckland as so many of them are being used as Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) facilities. As a result travellers to Auckland really need to explore smaller boutique forms of accomodation. Andelin Guest House represents an excellent 5 star quality alternative to large retail hotel brands. I will most definitely be staying here again and look forward to my next trip. This guest house is up there with the best...
Read moreStayed 2 nights at this beautiful guest house. We had Room 5 on the ground floor, which was nice as we didn't have to navigate the stairs. It was at the front of the property, but incredibly quiet. Dave (our host) was very helpful even meeting us at our vehicle and helping with our luggage. Our room was really comfortable, the bed, bedding and pillows were luxurious, and I haven't slept in a bed with an electric blanket since childhood:) We had a massive ensuite with a bath and the toiletries were lovely. The wifi was very good, and there is a lounge/dining area on the upper level with a coffee machine, lots of tea choices, and a fridge if you need it. On arrival, we called about on-site parking (which was not available), but Dave moved his vehicle so we could park right out front of the property. A 5 minute downhill stroll into the heart of Devonport where there were plenty of choices for eating, drinking, shopping and chilling out. Dave gave us some great cafe, etc recommendations. Andelin is right next to a church and cemetery, with graves dating back to the 1800's - which was very interesting to walk though. (Lots of those buried there were born in Scotland and migrated moved to Devonport.) We caught the ferry to Waiheke one day (which was AMAZING) and one could also catch the ferry into the Auckland CBD, but I am SO happy that we chose Devonport over the CBD. There were some lovely walks along the harbour and so many beautiful houses and gardens to check out. There was no booking following ours, so Dave let us stay as long as we needed to on the day of departure, which was great. This allowed us to stroll to breakfast, then have a lovely walk, then a leisurely shower, as we were heading to the airport for our final night before a 6am departure the next day. I would happily stay again, and would highly recommend...
Read moreSooooo looking forwards to staying here. We’d had a long drive and we’re looking forward to some luxury and comfort before heading back to the uk.||We received a text/email asking when we were planning to arrive.... ended up being over 20 texts as there was a fault with their system which was rectified. ||Greeted really warmly by Tracey and shown the room/communal areas. This place is gorgeous. The room is decorated beautifully, it’s incredibly comfortable, clean and well equipped. You couldn’t want for more. Amazing location to boot. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and the ferry terminal. Stunning.||On our final day we were sad to leave as we had a lovely restful stop. As we checked out Tracey advised our room wasn’t booked out that night so we could stay as long as we wanted. Such a lovely gesture, we wish we would have known before/wish we had of asked as we would’ve taken advantage. Such a shame. ||Cannot recommend this place enough. Wish it was a stone throw away as we would definitely return....
