I had the pleasure of dining at this exceptional Japanese restaurant in Auckland, and I can confidently say it was one of the most authentic and memorable Japanese meals I’ve had outside of Japan. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the quiet elegance of the space, which set the tone for an outstanding dining experience.
The quality of the food was truly top-notch – every dish was beautifully presented, expertly prepared, and rich in flavour. You could taste the care and precision in each bite, from the freshness of the sashimi to the perfectly balanced broths and delicately seasoned vegetables. It’s clear that the chefs are deeply committed to traditional techniques and high-quality ingredients.
What stood out just as much as the cuisine was the service. The staff were courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind – attentive without being intrusive, and always ready to explain a dish or recommend a pairing. Me and my partner came here for our anniversary dinner and they even put up cute signs to celebrate our special day! The owner which is also the chef puts so much effort and love into every dish he makes which makes this place so special! Highly recommend their dishes with egg yolk. We ordered this salmon nigiri dish with egg yolk wash on top and omg, I’ve never had anything so divine. The salmon literally melts in your mouth! The atmosphere inside is so comforting and both the owners are extremely friendly! We even got an origami bird each when we left, they’re too cute!

I now know why it's so hard to get a booking here. Sashi-san puts so much effort into making experiences for his patrons that he can only let a certain amount of people in per day.
But if you can get a booking holy heck is it worth it. Even by Japanese standards the food here is amazing and made with so much attention to detail. The rice is made with so much care and perfection, the fish is chosen to be so fresh, flavourful and cut so it has the most amazing texture. Even the miso has such complex and subtle flavors.
