The Lake House Cafe — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

Extremely disappointed with this place. Let me start by saying that we will never visit this place again or recommended it to anyone else. We visited this place on Saturday and there were two young girls running the place. They were courteous (the only positive experience). We had to wait 40 min for 2 mains and 2 drinks. I had to repeatedly follow up on the order status. We ordered the Ful Medames, what we got was a mix of beans and nothing even remotely like the actual dish, refer to the photo attached. No stew, or pickles or tahini. The other dish was Hawawshi, more than the beef patties it was loaded with fries and no pickles. The drinks were average. They should have refunded us, instead we did not even get an apology. Who ever runs this place should be ashmed about the level of service they have provided. Leaving two youngsters to run a cafe on their own is not acceptable. This place has so much potential that is currently being wasted. Other families like us with kids, just left without even getting...

Wanting to treat a special friend, today's experience here left us embarrassed with a bitter taste. Alarm bells should have rung on receiving a phone call the day before asking what we were going to order! Cafe has no welcoming atmosphere and is definitely seriously understaffed. Coffee was OK but 45mins later even the muffin had not arrived & with a further wait, one of the two ordered mince on toast with egg arrived on bread minus egg & utensils. I wanted to like this place, but it was difficult. The coffee was just ok and the eggs benedict was small, expensive and not remarkable. The venue is nice on the inside, but the location is isolated and it was picking up the wind so not pleasant. Its name is a little misleading too, it's no longer near the lake or the sea, it's on the old Barrys...
