Blind Basket Cafe — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

Blind Basket is a staple of Barrys Point locals offering an array of high quality cabinet options from light bites to hearty sandwiches and a generous selection of freshly hand rolled (and visually beautiful) sushi pieces and hot breakfast and lunch options with a nod to korean faire. Get in early to enjoy sushi before its gone for the day, lasting not much longer than 11am.

Owners and hosts Judy and Luke are often seen manning the counter and coffee machine respectively with fluid and congenial service. The atmosphere is ecclectic modern, laiden with stacks of the latest designer magazines and various houseplants. Disabled dining access is limited to alfresco options only.

Nice little place for my lovely wife and I to have a date lunch on a Saturday. Can imagine that parking an issue during week but Saturday lunch time was perfect as we parked pretty much right outside. It was quiet with only 4 other groups in or out over the period we were there. Like the kiwi / Asian fusion. I thought the prices were very good and competitive especially when you look at other cafes in Takapuna and Milford. Food selection very good and quality also good. Coffee a little on the weak side for me but nice. Sushi looked good quality as pieces looked a good size and was reasonably priced. Food wise I got the Okonomiyaki Omelette which I enjoyed but they were a bit stingy on the 'Add bacon' extra as got two half pieces with my omelette for $4. Staff attentive...

For around 5 years while I was working next door, this was my go to place for breakfast. Triple shot cappuccino and almond croissant (or cinnamon roll in case the latter was unavailable).

Judy and Luke offers the most exceptional customer service and create a fantastic environment here often with great mellow yet uplifting music (I’ve shazammed here a bunch of times).

Parking is a challenge but that’s beyond their control.

The kitchen produces salads, sushi and pastry based food and my absolute favorite is the chicken and mushroom filo pastry.
