Coffee Since Yesterday — Restaurant in Hamilton

Used to love this place. We went for breakfast on Good Friday and both ordered the avocado toast. It was straight up inedible. The eggs were tolerable, but the overall flavour of the combined ingredients of the dish was off putting. It was missing the red onion promised on the menu, but I don’t think that would have helped the browning avocado and white cream under it (mayonnaise?? Expired sour cream??). The smiley face you drew on the plate with that white substance feels ironic at this stage because even thinking about it now makes my stomach lurch. The coffee was lukewarm and average. Thankfully our dog enjoyed the bacon you prepared for her, otherwise this would have been a total disappointment. We tried to tell you guys before we left that it was the worst food we have ever eaten and you just stared at us. You had the opportunity to fix it in the moment and you failed. We are two people that eat out often, and you’re now a place we will avoid forever. Train your team on the importance of quality/meal checking and then following up if something is amiss so you retain your customers. It was a public holiday, so after the surcharge, we paid $90 for a meal we didn’t even eat. I’ve seen your responses to other bad reviews, and I do not want a reply. I don’t want a discount on my next order - there won’t be one. Train your staff and take some pride in what you put on the tables. Really good food and atmosphere. Im a little confused by the service :)

I have had lunch here a few times in the past couple of weeks. I have had an omelette, one of the poached egg dishes, and a date and orange scone. I would happily recommend any of them. The various meals of the people that I was with (eggs, burger, chicken with potatoe waffles and various slices) also got the thumbs up. The coffee is good. The cabinet is also good with sweet and savory food, which includes a build your own salad option. Special mention goes to the fried chicken with potatoe waffles, which is large enough that my teenage son did not finish it. I understand that their variation of the big breakfast is equally filling/daunting/a challenge (choose the adjective that best suits your response to large meals). My confusion about the service is that I am not sure if it is table service or not :) I have had table service. The guy that served us on each occasion was cheerful and gave useful answers to questions about the menu. However, I've also had to go to the counter go to order. Service at the counter was reasonably prompt and pleasant. To be clear, I have no complaints about the people that served me. It is just that I am not sure whether or not table service is the norm. Bottom line ... It is good. This spot has been a go-to for me and my mum whenever she comes into town, but something has changed recently, the past 3 times I've been in. The staff don't seem to really know much (even though they are friendly) and I'm not sure if they are all new and haven't been trained well? My friends and I had a hard time ordering, the food took a long time, and wasn't what it said on the menu. Things like fries instead of onion rings and different fillings with their sandwiches. I asked for just wedges, no bacon, and it came out with bacon and took a long time to get remade. My mum and I have always sworn to everyone this is the best place in town to get wedges, but there seems to be a lot less on the plate now and a couple weeks ago they weren't even cooked well. Today we didn't get our drink and had to ask (which is fine it happens) but it still took so long that it arrived after we'd finished eating and catching up and were ready to leave. The smoothie was room temperature not cold. The staff are friendly but seem constantly stressed and not as happy as they used to be.
