Gothenburg Restaurant is an absolute gem that continues to set the bar high for dining experiences. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed into a warm, inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed yet refined evening. The combination of elegant décor, soft ambient lighting, and a lively yet intimate setting made for a fantastic dining experience.
Now, let’s talk about the food—because wow, every dish was a showstopper! We started with the seared beef tataki, which was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The tender slices of beef were perfectly complemented by the crunchy fried shallots, tangy pickled vegetables, and a deliciously balanced sauce that brought everything together. Each bite was packed with texture and umami goodness!
Next came the slow-cooked lamb ribs, and they were nothing short of phenomenal. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, coated in a rich, flavorful glaze that had just the right amount of sweetness and spice. The addition of fresh red onions and red chili gave it an extra layer of depth, while the lemon wedge on the side provided a refreshing contrast. This dish was a definite highlight!
And of course, we couldn’t pass up the dumplings, which were absolutely divine. The delicate, handmade parcels were drenched in a bold and aromatic sauce that had a perfect balance of spice and savoriness. The fresh microgreens on top added a pop of freshness, making each bite a delightful experience.
Beyond the incredible food, the service was top-notch. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, ensuring that we had everything we needed without being intrusive. They were more than happy to provide recommendations, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Read moreBlown away by how good gothenburg is. We went down from Auckland to visit the Hamilton Gardens and wanted somewhere to eat - Gothernburg seemed to have the best reviews and best looking food.
We were not disappointed! Right from the get go the service was fantastic, attentive but not so frequent that you felt interrupted in your conversations. This carried through consistently the whole time. Drinks to start arrived quickly and the glass of wine was very generous.
Onto the food - we started off with the salt and pepper squid with a chimichurri style sauce. Perfect. 10/10. The squid was very well cooked, crispy and not chewy, and the sauce was delicious. So good we kept it for the following dishes as there was some leftover!
Next up we had the grilled focaccia with mozzarella- the focaccia was delicious, and the mozzarella with a sort of hummus/dip underneath was nice but needed salt. It had an olive salt sprinkled on it but not enough, and no salt and pepper on the tables. The dish would be better replacing the mozzarella with a burrata, it's a bit underwhelming as is but very good value and I was not unhappy with it.
Following that we had the swedish prawns dish (Skagen röra, Swedish classic mix of prawn, dill, lemon and mayo, grilled ciabatta) which was our least favourite. It was OK, but needed salt and was a very generous portion - far too much for 2 people, it would be better shared between 4-6.
Lastly we had the gnocchi which was another 10/10 highlight. The potato pillows were soft as anything and the medley of veggies it was served with were delightful, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, this was a fantastic way to finish.
Overall I can't fault Gothernburg. Service, food, location, ambience all 5/5 and I couldnt believe how good value for money it was. Approx $150 for 4 dishes and 4 drinks. Only improvement I can suggest is to offer salt and pepper if it's not available on the tables, but a seriously minor minor thing, we could have asked for it if we were...
Read moreSo, after reserving and cancelling thrice for various reasons we finally made it to Gothenburg the forth time. I and my husband went on 13 feb for his birthday dinner with our 2nhalf yr old. Very hyped and we entered with huge expectations. We went for chefs choice tapas for $75 each, a 2 variation cheese platter and the famous polenta fries. I am vegetarian and my husband is not so we couldn’t share our plates. My husband loved his appetiser, steak and dessert. I got 3 dishes and dessert. I loved my gnocchi and side veggies (veggies were a bit too greasy for my liking), loved my spicy cucumber appetiser (probably my favourite dish) but wasn’t a huge fan of the lentil dish, I just thought all the components together didn’t go well for me. Couldn’t eat after one bite. Their tapas portions are quite generous, so if you are 2 people, ordering individual dishes would be more practical. Few issues, there was practically nothing that a toddler can eat except polenta fries and wedges. The wedges were tad dry (guess over-fried) so he didn’t quite like it and the bowl went back as it came. We both felt the place can use some lights it was a bit too dark. I would like to see what’s on my plate. We had to use our phone lights to see what was in his appetiser though they tell you names of every dish they serve. Also please allow some time in between to finish a dish, our table was full and at one point had no space. Staff was lovely and very polite 10/10 for that. Would we come again? Yea absolutely! But I will feed my toddler...
