Machina — Restaurant in Hamilton

I used to go to Hamilton for work, and enjoyed visiting Machina to grab a coffee & slice, but my experience a few years ago tainted this for me.

That morning I had ordered a flat white, but the barista seemed quite busy. Since I wasn't in a rush I patiently sat at a nearby table to wait and read. After 15 mins a male staff members approached me. I had been expecting him to say something about my order, but instead he very pointedly said that if I wasn't going to order anything, I had no right to sit in the cafe and I needed to get out!

I told him I was waiting on my coffee, but he just glared at me, went behind the counter and whispered to another staff member. I remember feeling flustered and embarrassed, whilst noting that he hadn't approached any other tables or even attempted to give me a menu.

I understood the café was busy, and if other patrons needed the table I would have happily moved. But the rudeness of the encounter left me shocked. I eventually got my coffee... but have not been back since. The whole experience was really...

Lovely city cafe with an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. There were no clear vegan options but the staff were happy to make my avo crush vegan by replacing the egg and feta with portobello mushroom (their suggestion!). The lady then came to our table to tell me she could make some other dishes vegan as well. Apparently, their coffee is really good too, so I would definitely come back. (Would give them 5 stars if they added more vegan options to their menu...

Wow amazing. Soooooo yummy. I had the machina big boy my husband had the creamy mushrooms. Loved every bit of it. The chutney stuff was so good and I don't even like chutney. We also got a Cronut to take away and this was phenomenal. I've had loads of muffins from here to and they are the yum home made tasting ones. Good value for money. Coffee always good and even when super busy doesn't take too long. Friendly...
