Terrible experience, we were regulars here up until today. However, I have lost all of my trust in the staff (I believe the cafe manager). I came in with my elderly father and beagle, Sookie where the staff member/manager accidentally dropped the ramekin of garlic aioli just as I had stepped out to wash my hands.
I completely understand that accidents happen although after dropping the garlic aioli, the staff personnel did not say a thing to my father and had apparently gone back to grab a cloth to wipe the aioli away and within this time my beagle had wiped the floor clean. Dare I say that there was a load of napkins on the table that the staff could have utilised at the moment. All the while, dad was completely unaware of the fact that the sauce had been dropped.
As a pet owner and being aware of the toxicity of garlic to our furry friends, I went into a bit of a panic as any pet owner would. I had to leave my food on our seated area to investigate further with the kitchen staff as well as having to call the VSA Animal Emergency to troubleshoot the scenario. The lack of care/ due diligence/ knowledge of the staff showed throughout the transaction. Just for future reference, floor staff should be trained on how to deal with such scenarios and made aware of such foods that could detrimental to a dogs health, especially when they allow them on site. This whole experience was unsettling and has left a sour feeling for us locals.
I was very disappointed to say the least and underwhelmed with their lack of care. Especially, after I had asked for some water for my beagle. I waited 10mins for them to bring a cup of water out so we ended up leaving feeling deflated with the poor service, lack of care/due diligence. The cafe manager did not even follow up/check in on us or our beagle to see how we were going which made the whole experience even more dissatisfying. They have most certainly lost a handful of their regulars after...
Read moreOverall, the vibe and experience is good at the Kings Plant Barn, but the food needs a review from a recipe and consistency perspective.
Today I tried the Mushrooms on Sourdough with Poached Eggs.
The Sourdough was spongy and more like a brioche. A freshly baked sourdough needs that formed crust to ensure that it can hold its shape. I’m also not a big fan of the toast being balanced on one another, as portions of the bread were soaking wet by the sauce and other parts were hardly touched.
The mushrooms - today these tasted extremely tangy and vinegary which isn’t what I expected. The sauce is very thick and is extremely rich - I’m slightly nauseous thinking about it. I can still taste a malty, balsamic vinegar taste in my mouth. Almost like they put a spoon of Vegemite into the sauce. I expected a light, creamy, peppered-mushroom sauce.
Eggs - they’re good. I have seen through the kitchen window that these are pre-prepared and are dropped as ordered (makes sense for such a fast moving cafe).
Now don’t get me wrong - the food might be a bit average and lacks consistency but their coffee service is amazingly fast, their staff is really friendly and the overall ambience is adorable. Cafe in the gardens that lets you bring dogs is always a...
Read moreThe lack of care towards ALLERGIES was more than disappointing. This morning we asked for the creamy roasted mushrooms, and specifically told the staff members to make sure there were no eggs or nuts for one of my siblings and I. They clearly did not take care of it, and because of this my sibling had one of the most DANGEROUS allergic reactions yet, as well as NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE properly. I was lucky enough to not eat as much as she did otherwise BOTH of us would’ve been in much danger. Due to this reaction, she had to spend 4 hours in the Emergency Room. I would most definitely recommend the workers, especially at the counter and kitchen to always show 100% consideration towards every customer with allergies, otherwise it will clearly put the customer in a very dangerous position as it did today. A simple refund was most definitely not enough to solve this terrifying situation, and I truly hope every single staff member takes extra care for the...
