Tonight was our first-ever experience with First Table, where we booked a table for Minos, a Mediterranean restaurant (or so it was advertised as such - there wasn’t much Mediterranean about it). It was our first time experiencing Minos, and definitely our last!
We walked in and seated ourselves as our name was written on a yellow piece of cardboard displayed on the table. No one came to us until we had seated ourselves, and when the waiter did finally come to our table we were greeted with, ‘You’re the first table booking?’ What a wonderfully warm welcome, yes we are!
Many of the items from their menu were out of stock, and therefore we settled on the Pizza Bread as an Entree, Vegetarian Fettuccini, and a Margherita Pizza. The food was below average and the service was sub-par. The Margherita Pizza tasted like an old-school toasted cheese and tomato sandwich - one where the edges are crispy, but the inside is slightly undercooked and soggy from the sliced tomatoes. We didn’t finish the tasted sandwich flavour pizza, unfortunately. The Vegetarian Fettuccini was horrific, to say the least. So bad in fact that we had one taste and pushed it aside. It was fettuccini noodles with what seemed to be frozen McCain vegetables that had likely been defrosted in the microwave, in a sauce that tasted like cream of tomato soup powder mixed with warm milk.
The waiter came to check on us once, shortly after receiving the food, and then never returned. We assumed they could see we were dissatisfied with our meal, considering that we had pushed the plates to the side and he never came back to our table. We had to get up and go to the counter to pay our bill, and even then the waiter never asked us how our meal was, he simply rang up the bill and that was that…
Although First Table offered us the opportunity of 50% off our dinner at Minos, we still felt done-in and ripped off as we paid for our drinks, an entree, half a pizza, and one bite of terrible pasta.
Minos needs to rethink its food quality and service standard to...
Read moreVisited Minos on a Friday night and were lucky to get a table, as most were already occupied. Our server greeted us within minutes of being seated, and the manager on duty kindly recommended a few dishes — each of which exceeded our expectations.
We started with the prawn cocktail; the dressing was light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. For mains, we ordered a half-and-half pizza: one side Mexicana and the other marinara. While the Mexicana was my personal favorite, my partner devoured the seafood-packed marinara.
We also tried the bacon and chicken fettuccine, which was an absolute 10/10, and the prawn linguine, which stood out for its bright, citrusy flavor and fresh ingredients.
To end the night, we shared a passionfruit and peach cheesecake — a delicious, indulgent dessert and the perfect way to wrap up a fantastic meal.
It was my first time at Minos, but certainly not the last. We’ll...
