The Indian Kitchen Restaurant and Takeaways — Restaurant in Howick

Ok so I have not been to the Indian Kitchen for many years. I like my curries hot and just found them to be very bland, as they seemed to just add hot paste to the dish. Probably something to do with the mass production line they were when they sold cheap curries. This evening (Monday) the wife and I decided to go and give it another try, as our kitchen/dining was put of order. Nothing has changed inside since we were last there but that's the only resemblance. The new owner, since 2020 he told us, was very friendly and made a few suggestions. We ordered drinks and then food. The food came out very quickly and looked really good. I had Chicken Dopiaza Hot and my wife had Chicken Tikka Masala mild to medium, with garlic Naan bread. I started eating and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Chicken was nice and fresh and succulent and the flavors were superb. The heat in both dishes were spot on. The garlic Naan bread was amazing, light and tasty. Overall a really good experience and we will definitely be going again, the food was chalk and cheese v years ago in my opinion and so much better than I remembered, or expecting. Mains were $18.99, Kingfisher beer $8.50 which we thought was very reasonable.

The food was terrible. It was pre-cooked , frozen and heated up in the microwave. The biryani was dry and bland, the staff behave like they are doing you a favor by serving you. The young lady and man spend most of the time texting, the attitude is arrogant. The 3rd man there wears more jewelry than most women has no customer skills at all. He speeds you out of his way, like kinda pay and get out sorta attitude.....weird. The staff have absolutely no customer eticate, they are abrupt and arrogant. ....we were the only customers in there.....so can't say they were busy.

The food is absolutely lousy, bland, dry, tasteless......and a real let down for our local area. The worst part is paying for this rubbish, and regretting not going elsewhere.

If there was a no star rating then this place would get it.

Having supported this establishment for a good number of years , it is disappointing to experience how they have gone downhill over the past few years. Clearly loyalty means nothing to this business. We purchased there $5 txtd promotional butter chicken deal just to find on arriving home that the meal literally was a bowl of curry Gravey. This is a dishonest ploy by this retailer to flees customers ( image attached). we returned the curry to the retailer for a refund. Interestingly they were happy to do a refund without offering up the full product as normally provided.
