Oh. My. Goodness. One of the best restaurant experiences that I've had the blessing of experiencing in my local area! At first I wasn't sure why this place was often so busy, and how it could stand out compared to the other places within Howick. But this place truly blew me and my parents out of the water.
First, we fortunately went when it wasn't too busy (more of a personal preference and timing), and we were seated in the restaurant area. The atmosphere is truly living up to that homey feel, yet with a twist where it feels like you're visiting somewhere a little fancy too without making you feel out of place. I enjoyed the choice of decor personally! It had a lot of flavor and flair that you don't typically achieve now. Fantastic! My mother ordered the pie, and my father ordered the fish and chips. Myself? I wasn't too sure, but we were also able to order from the bar snacks menu whilst seated in the Restaurant section. Our meals combined could've easily fed another two whole people easily.
The food took some time to arrive, yes, but the service from the staff on the afternoon of 26/02/25 truly made our night worthwhile. Very respectful and mannerable, always made sure we were all good. Took orders with absolutely zero issue. The wait was worth it for the food! You absolutely get the quality and quantity you pay - and especially for it being in howick, it was worth it. Even managed to organize a suprise birthday dessert for my mother and they did NOT fail to absolutely amaze us! My mother was moved deeply and she just felt so special when all the staff had come to sing to her and congratulate her.
Overall: 50/10, the staff were INCREDIBLE! Food was amazing and worth the price we paid - and I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place to everyone living or visiting Howick!!! We are for sure coming here again. I also do hope their staff a massive raise and a lovely...
Read moreI last reviewed this place in September 2018 and it was all good. Now I'm back in NZ and have visited a couple of times. The first visit was a positive experience with a young British barmaid. Love the Lamb thingy on the Bar Menu. There was a less than stellar visit with a friend on a busy Friday night and I felt miffed. Hey, when I spend money I want to feel like a queen (or a dowager duchess or something). But, I returned ( I am nothing if not persistent) and over the course of two months when I sought refuge from the storm outside, I found a place I could call 'home away from home' as I got to know the delightful staff. But one of the highlights was Joe, a young barman who knew my drink of choice so well he had it ready for me. So I kept coming back. It will be a few months before I can enjoy the hospitality and yummy menu of Good Home again - which I once knew as the Prospect of Howick - but I will be back.. It really does feel like 'home'. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict in the restaurant...
Read moreWas really disappointed tonight. Myself, my friend and his partner planned to come here for dinner on Wednesday night and were really looking forward to it. We get asked at the door if we are here for drinks or dinner and tell the waitstaff we are here for dinner. The lady then asked us for our ID’s? Something that I’ve never experienced before when coming to this restaurant for dinner, or any local dining restaurant for that matter, especially considering we weren’t going to be at the bar or had planned to drink at all. My friend and I handed over our ID’s, however since his partner held an overseas ID we were refused service and asked to leave. This seems like a ridiculous policy for what locals consider to be a family restaurant, not even being able to even come here for a meal without the need for ID? Even on a Wednesday?? It was my friends partner’s first time in NZ and a pretty poor first impression for him. We will not be...
