Grew up in the area and this was the place to go for probably the best mince pie. Popped in today after a few years absence and their mince pies are no longer as tasty or as appealing as they used to be. Although the pie pastry was a good thickness, the pastry top was irregularly trimmed and hadn’t adhered to the bottom shell so the filling had oozed out. The filling itself was unusually bland, pale and had gobs of thickening in it. Quite disappointing. However, the coconut scroll and HK savoury bread were good. Not been here for a long time and even though I had a mask and a cap on I was recognized and greeted like an old friend. Old friend is right, we worked out I've been a customer for over 35 years. They started in 1975 and have been family owned and family run by the same people since then. This is rare and worthy of appreciation.
