Sweet As Cafe — Restaurant in Nelson

The best word to describe this café would be disorganised.

I visited on a Sunday, and the wait times were quite long — 30 minutes for food and 15 minutes for coffee. There seemed to be some confusion with orders; staff accidentally gave me coffees I hadn’t ordered and appeared a bit uncertain about which orders belonged to whom. Instead of correcting the mix-up, they spent some time discussing it in the kitchen instead of taking them back?

Staff looked rather overwhelmed and that impacted their efficiency and customer service. Some were unable to answer basic queries from customers or didn’t have proper etiquette for serving.

While the food was on the pricier side compared to other local cafés, that’s not surprising given their premium location off the main thoroughfare in the Nelson CBD. Hence the two stars (vs one) as the quality of food and coffee was great!

Ordered 2 milkshakes (icecream, real fruit, milk) for over $6 - I think it was $6.90 each.

Was disappointed that they came out in small glasses. They were ok, but lacked flavour. They could definitely do with a little more flavouring.

This cafe was buzzing with people when we got there, especially seated outdoors. This speaks to their popularity & how good their food & drinks must be. The milkshakes just weren't to my liking and on the small side.

I would recommend that they clear the tables outside more frequently, as the birds were fighting over some food leftovers on the table, leaving cutlery on the ground which another...

Amazing customer service and the best mocha I’ve ever had!! I ordered the real chocolate hot chocolate and added a coffee shot to make a real chocolate mocha. Staff had never done that before but were very careful to do it right and even checked in afterwards to ask if it was good (which it definitely was). Staff were also very accomodating of my request for alternative milk and were very friendly throughout.

Have been there both yesterday and today and both times were 10/10 for both coffee and service - best...
