Crown & Badger — Restaurant in North Island

I'm not one to write bad reviews or send food back to the kitchen but after having the ribs today I feel compelled to do so. I was there for a group dinner spending the weekend in Tauranga. As state above I ordered the "Manuka smoked ribs". I can say with absolute certainty that it has not been smoked let alone with manuka wood or chips (there is no smoke ring at all!!). Also the meat was tough and dry, and the table knife couldn't even cut through the meat. I had to literally rip the meat off the bone with my teeth to eat it. This is the first time in a very very long time where I did not finish the protein element of the dish. Completely inedible. The wait staff did come round after the meals were delivered asking how the food was, but that was such a brief visit (and I hadn't bitten down into the ribs yet) that I didn't even get to tell him how inedible the ribs are and have the opportunity to send it back to the kitchen for something more eidble. Bottom line: NOT manuka smoked ribs, and WORST ever ribs I've ever been served. The overall one-star rating is for what...

We waited too long for our food here and then we were presented with fish cakes instead of a margarita pizza. When we stated that we had ordered the pizza there was a firm attempt to convince us to take the fish instead. The rest of the order was correct however there was no trace of truffle oil in the truffle aioli and this is surprising as truffle has a distinct recognisable taste. The truffle aioli came with wedges which while tasty were a very small portion and tiny fragments of chips. Certainly not the wedges described on the menu. The final annoyance was that upon finding the salt cellar apparently blocked, we removed the lid to find it caked on the inside with a hard brown substance similar to rust. Not good enough Crown and Badger! Your pizza and fried camembert were tasty but the general feeling was one of sloppiness and poor respect for the customers right to a fair deal. Embarrassing and very disappointing especially when hosting a family member from out of time and a friend...

Poor!! Had a table booked New Year eve for family and friends fr UK ,was having a lovely time till one of party went out to take a call from UK he was then not allowed to get back in with no warnings at all,so my friend went out to see why and was told he was not getting back in so we politely pleaded with the security on door but to no avail and I came in,it was them that had THE ATTITUDEi which a lanky bouncer came upto me and asked me to leave he said I HAD AN ATTITUDE! an ATTITUDE??they spoilt our family and friends reunion they had the ATTITUDE ,we were allowed to stay after they were told that some were regulars but we left .were all over 50,some in 70's we don't have attitudes, it's them that need a lesson in how to talk to decent people and recognise when people are genuine...
