Read moreIf you've ever had Mexican food in North America, skip this or be wildly disappointed. Walking in I was on the fence about eating here or not, but it totally smelled like a good Mexican restaurant should so we sat down. They were pretty busy as well which I thought was a good sign.
We ordered a mocktail and a margarita, the mocktail came pretty quickly, then the ceviche (which they only have on weekends). When the margarita came it looked the same as the mocktail and we asked about it to be told, "oh sorry, that first drink has alcohol, is that ok?"...um, no under no circumstances is it ok. What if the person was in recovery, what if they were a young child...then the "margarita" came. It was a huge mess of mostly sour mix, it did seem to have a tequila flavor but they used some salt (chili?) mix for the rim which was not good. In the end we're pretty sure that the mocktail was nonalcoholic and they made two mistakes that cancelled each other out.
The food: The ceviche was pretty good and the little breads that came with it were very good. That was the end of the good food.
The tacos were maybe trying to be cal-mex but were way off. I don't think I've ever seen such oversized mounds of meat, beans underneeth!?!, and lettuces and sauces piled high, neither tasty nor appealing. The mole was just a very dried out chicken breast with a bland sauce slopped on top.
If the owner see this, you can save a lot of negative reviews with a good margarita, try: 15ml fresh lime, 20ml to 30ml simple syrup, 25ml triple sec (or even better cointreau), 45ml to 60ml tequila...shake, pour over fresh ice, rim with regular course salt. Claim the best margarita...
Read moreI had a very unpleasant experience. While some of the food was acceptable, the grilled beef was absolutely terrible, overcooked, dry, and tasteless, like chewing on rubber. But the worst part of the visit was the service. One staff member who seemed to be the owner was shockingly rude. She spoke to customers in an unfriendly, dismissive tone and acted like taking our order was a burden. There was absolutely no sense of hospitality or basic customer service.
To make matters worse, I only ended up at this place because I confused it with El Mexicano Zapata Cantina, the actual well known and reputable restaurant. The names are almost identical, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s intentional. I strongly suggest others double-check the name before walking in. Thank you for confirming exactly what I described in my original review, an inability to accept any form of criticism, paired with an arrogant response that instantly labels a dissatisfied customer as a “bogus review.” Instead of showing even a hint of humility or professionalism, you hide behind your “hundred positive reviews” and completely dismiss my personal experience. A business that truly values its customers would listen and reflect, not react with ego and...
