Grace O'Malley's Irish Inn Whitianga — Restaurant in North Island

Arrived late and the kitchen was only open for 5 more minutes so I decided to order from the light menu as to not be a pain to the staff. I ordered the nachos and salt and pepper squid. I was surprised with how fast they arrived and I guess that should have been a warning. The squid was fryed in a soggy batter with no hint of salt or pepper. Obviously the dish washer must have prepared that one. The nachos were absolutely disgusting. I know nachos are generally just a snacky type of thing but damn could you at least use some freshly made ingredients. The salsa was basically heines tomato sause with extra sugar and onion added. The guacamole was lightly squirted from a squeezy bottle and this combined to just look very unappealing. So long story short I didn't eat any of it which I hate doing as I don't really like to waste food. How hard is it to make decent nachos because I can do it at home in about 20 mins. We arrived an hour ahead of kickoff intending to stay the evening. We took the smallest table available at time of arrival that had a view of the game, ordered drinks & food and settled in. Unfortunately, despite our waiter being perfectly lovely, there was one particular server that was hovering around tables that didn’t look “full”, and who eventually asked (while we were mid-meal) “how long are you going to be here?”. Had we been asked if we were interested in moving to a smaller table if they could clear one, we would have 100% been open to this. His demeanour left us feeling like we should spend our money elsewhere, so we proceeded to finish the food and drinks we had and get up to leave before kickoff. As soon as we stood up he was clearing our table asking “are you done”, instead of asking what else we would have liked. We stopped en route home to buy a couple of bottles of wine from the local bottle-O (great service there, 10/10...

Rude and poor customer service. I went there on Saturday night and placed our order for four people. The guy who served me incorrectly put down my meal as a lamb shank instead of ribs. I only realised the mistake once our food came out, when I went to the bar to talk to them about it he ignored me and once I finally got to talk to the staff about it a lady who I assume was the head waitress accused me (in front of two other staff members) of having incorrectly placed my own order and said if I wanted ribs I would have to pay again. To avoid further embarrassment I just said I'll have to eat what they gave me, I'm still really disappointed and won't be going back.

If they thought about it they should have realised it was their error because if I'd ordered the shank I would have had to specify if I wanted a single or...
