On my fourth day in New Zealand, we were supposed to be having one of the best planned itinerary in our trip. Halfway through the day, the youngest member caught cold bug and had to be hospitalised.. missing one of the tour was not really that important but the fact that it drained our energy and affected our mood. Luckily she put up a strong face and after 4 hours she was discharged. Feeling hungry, I fired up Google to find place to eat. As a matter of fact the only food that they all could agree on was pizza so Italian restaurant it was. Many options but we settled for the nearest to us with good ratings. Located at Eat Street Rotorua, we decided against dining alfresco due to the cold weather. As it was weekday, not many diners were seen and therefore we got undivided attention from the waiter who served us. ◾Risotto con Granchio - crab, chili, chive and sweet pea risotto, parmesan and prosciutto crisp NZ$26.50 was the best money spent! The risotto was brimming with the sweetness from the crustacean while the crispy parmesan prosciutto provided extra crunch to the otherwise soft texture of the Italian rice. ◾Insalata caprese NZ$15.50 - with cured prosciutto, horopito and basil oil, balsamic reduction and croutons. ◾Margarita NZ$18.00 - a classic Italian pizza done right with Napoli sauce, cherry tomato, mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil. Thin crispy crust with generous cheese and tomato toppings but the happiest part was to see how the little ones gobbled up everything ◾House pouring white wine - badly need this to sooth the feeling after the blardy incident. A plan of just stopping by for a quick dinner turned out to be one of the best meal of the entire trip due to the setback earlier in the day and the fact that the weather was very gloomy.

We’ve waited a long time to go to a nice Italian restaurant and we were not disappointed by this visit. Highly recommend if staying in Rotorua to enjoy a lunch/dinner here. I just wish they did a pasta dish with arrabbiata sauce. We had the freshly made crayfish and prawn ravioli which looked amazing and you could really taste the crayfish. Pasta was al dente but crayfish was a bit dry for my liking and I would have loved more extra virgin olive oil for the dressing, they promptly provided some on request. Highly recommend ordering the scallops starter alongside this dish, superbly cooked! Not a dish to miss if you like seafood. And the broccolini side gives the dish a fresh bite. 2 very complimentary plates. The deserts are most definitely worthwhile to order, although I was rather disappointed that they ran out of tiramisu as this was one of the main reasons we chose this restaurant to dine in for our last night in Rotorua, I’m sure it would have been beautiful with the espresso martini I ordered. All the dishes that we saw looked 5 star quality, the oysters looked great and so did the steak. We also ordered the calamari for starters and the al fungi pizza to take home which we was delicious. Overall, 5 star is for the very good hospitality and Italian edge. Thank you, I look forward to the tiramisu the next time we visit!

On a bustling evening, coinciding with the Phantom of the Opera Week, our dining experience was somewhat lackluster amidst the crowd. We embarked on a culinary adventure with the following dishes: Truffle Risotto: A stellar 10/10, an absolute must for truffle aficionados. Rich and flavorful, it tantalized the taste buds with its exquisite aroma and depth of flavors. Cioppino: Unfortunately, a disappointing 5/10. The thin and lackluster sauce failed to impress, with a noticeable absence of seafood flavors. A dish best skipped, in my opinion. Crayfish & Prawn Ravioli: A mere 4/10, a disappointment masked by the allure of the word "lobster." Lacking any discernible seafood essence, the oversized ravioli failed to deliver a satisfying balance of flavors, leaving much to be desired. Red sauce gnocchi (that night's special): A resounding 10/10 recommendation! The sauce boasted a delightful garlic-infused essence, perfectly complementing flawlessly cooked gnocchi for a truly delectable experience. Milano Pizza: A respectable 7/10, offering a decent but unremarkable flavor profile. Overall, while two dishes shone brightly with a perfect score, the remainder of the meal fell short of expectations. With a bustling atmosphere and average fare, this establishment fails to leave a lasting impression. A rating of 3.5 stars would be fitting, considering the lack of wow factor in both service and ambiance. As such, a return visit seems unlikely in the foreseeable future.

Our experience started with the waitress (young lady with long pony tail) asking us if she can help. When we asked for a table for 2 at 7 pm she had to call for help. A young man came along and he had know idea how to take a booking . He called a manger who was very nice and proficient in English and told us that this restaurant is a walk in. We came back an hour later and ordered pork belly and fettuccine. The young lady Brace who serves us was absolutely excellent ! The waitresses seem to help each other and When we asked for a repeat of sav blanc (2 more glasses) the same waitress with long pony tail brought us 2 empty glasses and asked if it was ok. And it wasn’t 😂 we wanted 2 full glasses. Thanks to Brace , she saved the night . The food was good , pork belly - small piece was perfect , bigger piece could have a few more minutes to be as soft as small piece . Fettuccine is fettuccine , sauce was nice . Overall , not a bad experience but perhaps management should consider English proficiency when hire front counter staff.

This place is a bit overrated, we decided to go there based on the previous positive (majority) reviews. We ordered a pizza, burgers and Cannelloni. The pizza base looks like the ones from the frozen pre-made in the supermarket/Gilmours, the taste is pretty average and toppings are okay. The chicken patty from the burger also reminds me of the Top Hat range frozen products. The beef and the lamb patties of the burgers are definitely in-house made but they caused the buns to be very soggy when you are eating it -due to excessive fat/juice within the patties. The braised lamb shoulder from Cannelloni taste very similar to the lamb burger patty, assuming they have used the same thing in both dishes? Overall not much taste to it and most dishes are pretty plain. The services and the atmosphere are great 5/5! The food definitely needs improvement or is this place just overhyped?!

****You’re going to need a fork lift to roll me out of here**** 5 glasses of top shelf local and Australia drops, matched with a beautifully well rounded plate of fettuccine carbonara (me) and an exceptionally presented Pappardelle Pasta (My fair lady)was a fine choice for our cute date on the Rotorua Eat Streat. We were both busy on Valentine’s Day to go out so we took a rain check on our romantic evening out to hit this epic restaurant on a still Sunday evening. — Photograph featured was the Tiramisu, check out the presentation of this traditional Italian dessert. Seriously WOW! I would highly recommend Leonardo’s to anyone wanting a fine dining experience, the staff are prompt and friendly making for a warm yet professional and punctual approach to a quality service. ...where to dine next?!
