Utterly Rude Service
I visited this cafe this morning with my husband, and it was a truly disappointing experience. From the moment we stepped in, the service was shockingly rude. The server took our order with a scowl, as if we were a burden rather than customers. When my husband kindly said "Good morning," he was completely ignored. Things didn't improve when another staff member brought our drinks—still no smile, no warmth, just a curt handoff that left us feeling unwelcome and awkward. It was clear these girls could enjoy themselves, as I overheard them laughing and chatting while we sat there feeling like intruders. As someone with over a decade in hospitality and running my own cafe, I know how crucial it is to treat customers well. It's unacceptable to have such unfriendly staff in a service-oriented business. Even as we were leaving, my husband thanked them again, only to be met with silence. Their blatant disregard for basic courtesy is infuriating. I was shocked to find that many other reviews echoed our experience, indicating that this rude service is a pattern. I won’t be returning, and I urge others to steer clear of this place. Read moreI came here two weeks ago with a small group and up until then, thought Mixture was one of the better cafes in Tauranga. However, this last visit was the rudest customer service I have experienced. Our group was treated like an inconvenience from the get go. The server appeared frustrated at the size of our group (8 in total) and plonked down our cabinet food orders, chucked down the cutlery and said “you can sort it out yourselves.” It was rude to the point we were red-faced looking around at what we did wrong. It came to a head when I did not receive my order (large mocha) as the rest of my table had finished their food and drink. I politely inquired about my order to which almost turned into a full-on argument when the lady behind the counter said my order was made and if I didn’t receive it, it means someone else must’ve accidentally taken it. The lady straight refused to make my order because someone ‘stole’ my coffee! I’m not one for confrontations like that but I actually had to go back and forth with the lady on whether I would receive my order or if I could get a refund. The prepared food menu had pricing, along with drinks, but everything in the cabinet, sweet and savoury, had no indication of cost. Subsequently got a bit of a shock at the total. Also no receipt offered or given to check exactly what cost what. Didn’t feel confident enough to query every item and certainly wouldn’t place the order asking for the price of everything I might consider. Mixture, are you counting on being good enough that people will pay whatever you want, even with no obvious pricing? Are you also counting on customers not publicly challenging or asking for prices? Did the public holiday add a surcharge, that was neither displayed nor able to be checked on? I’m torn now. It’s not a model I’d like to see gain traction and if asked now for recommendations I’d add the caveat that Mixture don’t have pricing so either be prepared to ask or be ready for a surprise at...
