Shellrock Takeaways — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

These were the best chips I had ever had in my entire life. I was visiting Tauranga for the weekend and chose this place for dinner for two of those nights, best decision I had ever made. Sure the chips are a little more expensive than back in Christchurch but they are so worth it, and you get 4 different options of chips to choose from being; Fresh Cut Potato, Shoestring, Kumara and Wedges all for $5 a scoop.

They had the best battered sausage I've ever had and they also sell this little Lasagna Square for $3 and I miss that more than anything now that I'm back home, it was so delicious.

The owner was also really cool and struck a good conversation and hit me with a compliment towards my wallet, I've never felt more connected to a fish and chip shop in my life and that was just in 2 days. I had been shopping at one other fish and chip shop for nearly 2 decades and I don't nearly have enough of a positive connection with them as I did with the guys here.

I want to go back to Tauranga just for this...

2 years later, hungry as hell.. Lucky for me Shell Rock has its fryers hot and ready. What a great place. Fish and Chips old fashion style. So Good you can eatem cold.

Been some redecorating done but much the same style.

Nice friendly people behind the counter.

Wife says the fish tasted nice and fresh. But... The chips... I always remember those chips.. Real old home cut chips that were almost better cold than hot... Sadly that must have changed and that was the reason I came to Shell Rock Takeaways.

Guess I was expecting a wee bit more than...

Have been here before and the food is highly recommended by me and others. The reason for this review is about the way i was treated and the food. Im not sure what i did to upset the owner, maybe it was how long it took me to choose what fish i wanted. Everyone before me when they recieved their food got a conversation and a come again. When mine was ready he just threw it on the counter and glared at me Everyone there was a bit stunned as we did not no why. We left and went to beach. Fish was so overcooked that had to feed to the seagulls. Chips were crumbs and no better. Only took photo when i remembered i had phone. People drive from afar to come here and its worth it so i really dont know what...
