Only recently did I discover Squirrel despite having lived in Wellington for all my life - and wow, I have been missing out! The interior set up is perfect, meaning it is very spacious, and the decor is beautiful. The overall atmosphere is very calming, which made my experience there even more enjoyable. I didn't have much interaction with the staff, only at the counter to order my food and briefly when it was handed to me, but that doesn't really bother me - I come to eat the food rather than nit-pick the service.
I ordered the granola bowl which was presented quite well. At first I was disappointed with the portion size, as it was extremely small. It was very affordable, being only $12.50, however I still feel as though the serving of each component could be increased. I am not even that big of an eater, yet I left feeling somewhat hungry. Maybe this is just because I am a granola connoisseur, but I feel as though this meal could be improved.
My friend got the chicken focaccia sandwich from the cabinet (heated up), which no world of a lie was the best thing I have smelt for a very long time. It smelt exactly like KFC but one billion times better - I can't even explain it! Unfortunately I didn't get to try any, but from the smell of it, I assume that it would have been heavenly. I will definitely order this next...
Read moreI can't support the good rating. Coffee was sour (my wife couldn't finish it and we really aren't coming with big expectations). We were waiting 30 minutes for a simple avocado toast. 2 Avo and 2 very small cappucino add up to 38 NZD. When it finally arrived, after I had to ask for it (and it seemed like they forgot about it), the Avo toast was well prepared and in genral was good, but had a strong taste of balsamico acid to it. This argument might be subjective, but the others are evidence based. The café is almost always full and I saw many people coming and bouncing off. I think the service is okay, could be a bit friendlier too, but given the constant "full house", I understand the stressful...
Read moreSquirrel is a wonderful place to eat with very innovative and yummy food but…….why do you allow dogs into your small space which spoils the experience for so many people. Today I saw the wait staff stroking the dogs and then serving the food without any hand sanitation. Quite frankly this has put me off going to Squirrel again - cafes are for eating nice food and meeting friends - not to have to put up with other peoples dogs. This might come as a surprise to dog owners but not everyone likes dogs being around in the same place that food is being consumed. What is the Squirrel policy on allowing dogs...
