Strand Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

Old school place serving cheap, bland, old school food. That would be not too bad if the prices were also cheap, but too pricey for what it is.

I had Eggs Benedict for $20. The hollandaise was terrible, the worst I've had in a long time, possibly ever. Clearly the cheapest sauce they can get. And smothered into too much of it as well. I scraped off as much as I could.

And they don't have bacon!!! They have some weird thing called 'beef bacon'. It's not fried, it's more like slices of roast beef. But it tastes really weird and doesn't go with eggs at all!

It's a weird half-measure. Either a place is vegetarian or vegan if that's their jam. Or they serve meat. But this place doesn't do bacon specifically, which is really odd for a cafe.

You can get Eggs Benedict for $20-25 at other places around, that make their own hollandaise that tastes fantastic. So this one needs to be $15 at most for what it is.

Staff were not unfriendly per se, but not overly talkative or went out of their way to be welcoming or friendly.

I highly recommend Cafe on the Strand, having had a delicious breakfast there recently, while staying over night at City Suites accommodation, a short walk away in Cameroon Road. (I'd highly recommend them too.) I ordered a cup of tea while waiting for my yummy smashed avocado and poached egg on toast. The tea was literally the best cup of tea I've ever had out. I'm very fussy with tea, but the cafe earned their five stars before I was even served my breakfast! Staff were lovely and so was the sea view, which as a visitor to Tauranga I was pleased to see. I believe they are rude and may have a problem with the browned skin race... Tried to put my pregnant daughter outside to eat...also eggs bene is a cafe trend for brekki or brunch...there's is overloaded with not even crispy bacon water logged... Sauce is nice egg a slight over done...eggs need to be Sunnyside up runny smooth ... Please change your attitude and the eggs bene please make it look presentable... And nice to the taste...affordable prices but not quality...hopefully it helps change the way to a brighter and tastier...
