The Clover — Restaurant in North Island

I have reviewed the Clover previously, but wanted to do a new one.

I had astoundingly poor service today.

I ordered a chicken burger, which comes with free Friday-Fries. However, the quantum of fries was significantly less than usual.

Having visited probably 100 times in the last 5-6 years, I am well placed to judge the size. It was around a quarter of the number they usually give, and that I got on my last visit, which was just last week.

I questioned this with the server, but her response was appalling. She just simply said "I'm not the cook" with a surly tone and walked away.

Obviously she's not the cook, that wasn't the point. She's the face of the business to the customer.

So after being a solid customer for so long, I will not be back.

Which is a shame as their chicken and fish burgers are quite good. Not in the top tier like Fat Brother or Palace, but...

Ordered from here on Uber eats. Was drunk as hell and wanted a good feed. Not disappointed at all. Beef Burger was legit! So stacked with fillings it was a little hard to control but let’s be honest that’s what we all want when we are starving. The beef patty was cooked perfectly. The buns were toasted on both sides (which is a very rarely used technique in my experience) I was immensely impressed. The fries were impeccable, crispy outside fluffy inside. The chicken burger wasn’t too great to look at (a rather strange dark brown colour of the batter) but the tenderness of the cuts and the flavour quickly removed any trepidation on my part. My wife and I had a great dining experience tonight at the Clover. Super helpful and friendly staff. I have allergies and the team happy to adjust my burger to not include any dairy. My double beef burger was so tasty and my wife had the chicken burger, which she totally enjoyed too.
