The Old Bailey — Restaurant in North Island

This restaurant and bar is in a great location on the Wellington waterfront. On a Saturday afternoon in late summer it was definitely popular based on the number of patrons enjoying both the outdoor seating and the more traditional indoor seating. The interior is beautifully light and open, with high ceilings and unique historic architectural features owing to its heritage.

The staff appeared well organized as they efficiently worked through the continuous line of patrons. Everything seemed tidy, despite the hive of activity. The service was polite and even with the level of demand the kitchen and bar were no doubt under our food and drink arrived in a timely manner.

The food was tasty and matched the description of the menu. We ordered the cornbread and the sticky Korean-style chicken bits and found it tasty. The only point that I would raise in regard to the food is that we saw limited options available. Those they had were more leaning towards what I would loosely call "bar food". Things like different types of fries and other finger food/shareable type items. There may have been other menus for dinner or breakfast but I didn't see them.

Overall we were happy with our experience of a social place to stop for an afternoon snack, with a nice atmosphere and greet location. It was two minutes walk from the Te Papa museum and maybe 10 minutes walk from...

We got here at 11:10am, first waitress got my coffee quick then the other waiter came to our table and take order at 11:20am, we found out breakfast served until 11:30am and we were actually in between the breakfast and lunch time. At first we were told we could order breakfast ONLY because the kitchen wasn’t ready for lunch yet, we told the waiter my husband and I would order breakfast and the kids can wait for 10 minutes until the kitchen is ready for lunch and he said OKAY. The waiter started taking our breakfast order, after he got my avocado toast request, all of sudden he just walked away and disappeared for few minutes then he returned to our table at 11:33am and said “the kitchen is ready for lunch now and you can’t order breakfast anymore.” How could that be our fault for not able to order breakfast if we could place the order by 11:30am and if he didn’t just walk away (plus he insisted that’s the only thing we could order at the time)? The waiter didn’t even bother to explain. The food might be good but the service from that waiter was just ridiculous, ruining the whole...

Staff were really welcoming of note in particular shout out to Karina.Was able to recommend a fabulous Pan head APA, which I was able to sample before buying. I can't recommend enough. Karina was very attentive and friendly.Great attitude nothing was too much trouble despite it being very busy.My friend and I were so impressed with the service.We really liked the buzz of the venue ,Decor and interior design added to the comfortable welcoming feel of the space.We ordered drinks and had the Beef burger Excellent and great price point.We really liked the range of the menue items but both just wanted the burger.We were not disappointed.Highly recommended.
