Le merveilleux à Wellington! Best barber in town, the French Barber has an authentically gentlemanly feel that doesn’t seem forced or over done. Book ahead and you’ll get priority, but the friendly and welcoming barbers will pretty quickly set you at ease that there is no rush in getting your hair cut, clipped, or shaved. Alan, the most French among the barbers, will ensure your meagre instructions turn into a great haircut well beyond what an amateur could ask for. Basic cuts and clipper cuts are available for the less picky at around $30 and $25 respectively. A superior cut is where it’s are though, especially if you have enough hair to craft and at $45 it’s value for money given how good you’ll feel once sorted. Bearded brethren should get in too, as the barbers shape beard brilliantly and can turn any man from “unshaven” to “well-groomed” in quick time. The various hair care products also make for a little, necessary love for often neglected areas. Go here for the kind of barber experience you hear about in old days, where your barber cares, will joke with you about drinking later, and occasionally swear in French.....and they’re just the kiwi barbers! Enjoy.

Went in for haircut and beard trim. The hair cut was perfect, however my beard trim fell well short of my expectations. One side of my beard didn’t line up with other side (first picture) shape was uneven on the left. I’ll give them props for committing to fix it so quickly (within 2hours). After getting back to the store for the fix, I found that I was having to repeat myself regarding the issue and directing them how to view my face to spot the issue. Unfortunately the attempted fix didn’t fix anything and left my beard uneven, with too much taken off on one side. Essentially I’ve now got two different beard shapes on each side of my face (2nd photo)

French Barber is a gem. The beard needed a bit of a trim after a few days travelling so did a walk-in and was seated within 10 mins. The ambiance is effortlessly cool, and the attention to detail is impeccable. Top service from George. They make you feel like more than just a customer—it's a personalized grooming treat. If you're looking for a fresh cut and a great vibe, French Barber is the place to be! Solid 5 stars.

Giving one star because ZERO is not an option.

I walked in without a booking ( just like the other customers in the waiting area ). When its finally my turn, this french arabic guy ( definitely saw me and know I am the next in line ) just skipped me on purpose and even gave me a weird look. I can only assume it’s because of my race since I was the only ‘people of colour’ in the waiting area by that time. I find it ironic since the barber himself is also a minority.

A girl took me and we started talking about tattoos. She said she is getting a new tattoo soon but hard to make a decision between two designs. I asked about the designs then I told her I like one of the designs. Her response was “I honestly don’t care about your opinion”.

At check out, I said I have stamps on three different cards and asked if I can merge all together ( if they merge together I’d be two stamps away from getting a free haircut ) and the girl was like ‘no just keep it this way so you will get three free haircut in the future’ ( but to get the three free haircut I had to collect full stamps on all three cards - I need to get 20 more haircuts to be qualified.

I swear I was polite since I got in the shop because I worked in hospitality before and I know to treat people with respect but the whole experience was just humiliating and ridiculous. There’s so many places that give good haircut, I highly recommend you don’t come to this disrespectful and...

Since last year, every month I’ve been going around Wellington and trying out multiple barbershops. None of them fulfilled to my standards, until I came across the French Barber. Service was exceptional, from an easy online booking to a nicely greeted welcome at the door. Jason listened to my hair style preferences and knew exactly what I wanted. He executed my hair with excellence from his attention to detail and masterclass skills. My expectations were beyond what I had imagined and overall my experience was top tier. I’ve never had so many people take notice and compliment me with my fresh hairstyle, full credit to you Jason! Thanks so much, I’ve found the barber that’s right for me and will certainly be...
