Konya Kebabs — Restaurant in Otago

I had about 40 meals in Dunedin and Konya was one of the top three. There are a bunch of decent restaurants in Dunedin and a few that are trendy and hip but few that approach the quality of Konya. The simple decor and slightly off the main drag location makes it easy to overlook, but don't. The menu is standard Turkish but no matter the time of day, the food is fresh and prepared with skill. Crisp, bright salads; moist, perfectly browned meats; Turkish delight and baklava both sticky enough to be fun but not a chore to eat. Even the fries are good--good enough for me to ask why they were so good. It turns out they carefully maintain their oil temperatures, age, have different vats for different foods, and only cook small portions at a time. Thus, anything fried is guaranteed to be fresh and crisp. The food is great, the family that runs the place is friendly and kind, and the price is right. We were in Dunedin for new year's eve and came across this little place on our way to the Octagon. Knowing how busy everything was going to be there, we decided to stop at Konya for a dinner. It was about 9 pm, the place was empty, which made me wonder if we shouldn't go somewhere else. But we were hungry, so we went ahead and ordered. And am I glad we did. The wrap was delicious and quite filling! While we ate, other people came in to eat as well, and there were a few take away orders as well. I would eat here again next time...

I like this place, this place and huzur are the best doner kebab shops in town. Last kebab I ordered though was way too dry. I opted for two sauces and I didn’t notice any sauce at all until the last bite. I’m not paying for extra sauce either because the doner already costs $28 on Uber excluding delivery. It should be perfect for that price and there should be noticeable sauce. Also I did not notice onion which is something I think is essential to a doner kebab.
