My husband and I, as well as some extended family members stayed here on the nights of 26th & 27th June 2020. This is our opinion of our room. Unfortunately our familys experience was much the same. Upon arrival struggled up to our middle floored rooms with our bags as there are no lifts to speak if. When we finally got there this is what we found....A tiny dated room with a card(only 1 card per room given) electricity cut off system. Most inconvenient!! Card provides electricity to your room. So when we arrived (late arrivals) this card was in a pick up box and our room was dark and rather cold. Not a good start! No room for luggage except for one bag which you have to keep in the excessively small wardrobe that doesn't even fit the coat hangers full width! Bed absolutley horrible!!! A small double (not even a queen sized) that was extremely uncomfortable with a manky beige (stained looking) cover on it!! Carpet stained and rotting, in particular in area leading out to a confined courtyard. Bathroom cute, however shower nothing more than a joke!! About a quarter of the size of a standard sized shower and this is being kind. So miniature in fact that when lifting arm up to wash it hits the door open and all the water shoots out across the tiny bathroom flooding it. I'm not a large person thankfully, but be warned... if you're larger I doubt that you'd be able to turn around in this shower... that is if you could get in it at all. Also the shower head is obviously set for taller people. It's not telescopic, so not helpful. Even with the shower rose pointing down as low as it could the water was just hitting me in the face. No city view as I requested. Instead surrounded by a very high wall unable to see over (I'm 5'2).Very depressing and prison like enclosure!! Also no privacy as this confined area shared with neighbouring guests (strangers)!! Positives: Nice touch with liquid hand wash, body wash, shampoo and moisturizer pump bottles. Very good water pressure. Very close to town. Visits from cute neighborhood cats that wander through your room (not necessarily a positive as my husband doesn't like cats). Free onsite parking. Plenty of cups, plates, cutlery etc... Taking all of this into consideration this is not somewhere...
Read moreThe Motel on York was a wonderful discovery here in Dunedin, New Zealand! Jo in the front office was wonderful to work with, and just a delight to talk to!||The motel is centrally located in the city, and within walking distance to the Octogon, restaurants, and shops. Plus, it was just a few minutes drive down to Saint Clair Beach where we had a nice lunch at a restaurant called Salt. We were in Suite 6, which has a queen bed, a nice patio, and a view of the city.||We took Jo’s suggestion and went for a drive to the end of the Otago Peninsula, where we saw beautiful beaches, spectacular views of the harbor, and if you’re lucky, you will see the giant albatross.||I almost booked us into the Scenic hotel, which is a chain here in New Zealand, but was glad I didn’t when I saw the large tourist buses deliver hundreds of people into the lobby when I walked by.||I found that it was easy to book directly on the motels website, and we even paid for the continental breakfast, which was delightful every morning.| |Stay at The Motel on York and enjoy your...
Read moreThis place seems to be pretty well located near the centre of the city, and has adequate parking. But it's a fairly average stay. Our Superior Studio room was a decent size and pretty well-equipped, but a soft bouncy bed doesn't give me a great night's sleep, the hairdryer wasn't working, and the shower was rather dysfunctional (combination of small cubicle and angle of the fixed shower head). The owner didn't come across as particularly welcoming although his wife when I checked out was very chatty.
Be aware the owners have made this a totally non-smoking property -- even on balconies or in the car park! This is far from the norm in New Zealand (the only such property in our month traveling the country). This should be clearly flagged on their website: just say "We don't welcome smokers" or whatever and I'll book somewhere else.
Also, there is no elevator and you may be on the third floor -- if that's a problem it is worth being aware of this
Needless to say, I wouldn't...
