Starbucks George St — Restaurant in South Island

The staff are very friendly and helpful and the Cafe has a nice atmosphere, but their coffee is sorely lacking in quality. I bought a slice and a cappuccino. The slice tasted great and was a very nice mix of sweet and savoury so as to not be overpowering. The coffee however tasted awful and burnt. The unusual thing is that unlike normal when you get a bad coffee, it did not taste like it was set to the wrong grind or had been made incorrectly, so i am fairly certain that it is nothing to do with the barista who made it. It tasted like the beans were just old and stale and that they had been trying to roast them until they turn to charcoal instead of a nicely roasted coffee bean. I am not sure if they are roasted in house or roasted at a central location and distributed across their cafes, but someone seriously messed up the roast. I am not sure it this is normal or not for starbucks coffee since I had never been there before, but based on this experience I am definitely not going back and would recommend no one else does either.

I would however recommend trying allpress instead, they have great coffee that they roast fresh in house, they do not burn it, and it always has a perfect smooth taste. If you truly love coffee, you deserve to have coffee that is actually good, not the stuff starbucks makes with an acrid burnt taste.

I spent over $100 buying the travel series mugs and ordered a matcha latte. The drink was extremely bitter and I only drink Matcha latte so I know what the drink tastes like. I asked the girl to add a bit of milk to the drink because it’s too bitter and they wanted to charge me money to add more milk. Starbucks has a drink policy when the drink doesn’t taste good they remake it. I’ve had that experience all over the world and she was rude about it. Needs to know policy as you’re representing an international company with standards that people are used to hence why we keep retuning...

I ordered a cappuccino and looking forward to a nice hot cuppa. It looked the part but when I took a sip the cup was half full with froth and had at the most half a cup of coffee.I took it to the counter and asked if it was the way they make it there.I was told that it was,but to be nice she would add more milk. I took the coffee back to the table and again found that she had filed the hole where I had my finger in to check the level of coffee to foam with more foam. I should have asked for my money back but if that is the way they make their caps I wont be going there...
