I didn't want to give this place a bad review as I believe their food and coffee are excellent, Unfortunately there is one lady who works at the front counter who is a nasty piece of work. I've been in there three times already and every time she's served me she's always given me some attitude. The first time was when I ordered a large coffee and she for some reason got offended when I simply asked if the coffee was a large since it appeared smaller than the large coffees I ordered at other stores. She halted me as I was leaving the building to explain to me that she was offended over me asking if it was a large and showed me all the different sizes (dont recall asking but cheers). I wasn't in the mood for any confrontation so I just said "okay, thank you" and left. This apparently upset her so much that my friend went in there the next day and she asked him "do you think our coffees are too small?" Seriously lady, do you have nothing better going on in your life that you have to focus all your negative energy towards something as silly as me asking about your coffee cup sizes? Then I went in there again to order a burger and some fries. She handed me my order and said "here you go, thank you" to which I replied by saying "thank you" back. And again, as I was leaving she called out "thank you!" in a rather aggressive tone, I could maybe accept that she might not of heard me when I said thank you the first time but that still doesn't justify her yelling out to me, she's working in a customer service role, she shouldn't allow her personal feelings to get in the way like that. At the end of the day, you're going to meet many different people with different mannerisms, you should learn to control your emotions and realize that not everyone is going to react the way you want them to. You never know what these people are going through, and it's never your place to judge them.
Again i didnt want to give this place a bad review, the food is great and even the other lady who works at the counter is pleasant, it's just unfortunate that the other lady is letting the whole party down. Very disappointed, won't be going in there again. My recommendation - order them through uber eats, that way you won't have to deal with that nasty...
Read moreOur visit to Amayjen, boasting the renowned chef who recently won two gold medals at NZ Chef of the Year, turned out to be a deeply unsatisfactory experience due to abysmal service and a significant oversight that left us without a meal. Despite the chef's prestigious accolade, the restaurant failed to meet our expectations in terms of service and attentiveness. Upon entering Amayjen for a celebratory lunch, we were filled with anticipation, eager to sample the culinary creations of the esteemed chef. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasing, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. However, our hopes were quickly dashed. After being seated, it became apparent that the service at Amayjen was severely lacking. After waiting an hour without any sign of our meal and seeing other diners who came in after us receive their meals, we inquired about the status of our order, only to discover that it had never been placed in the kitchen. This oversight was unfathomable, considering the reputation of the chef and the restaurant's aspiration for excellence. To our disappointment, the manager failed to offer any explanation for the extended wait and appeared dismissive of our concerns. No genuine apology or attempt to rectify the situation was made, leaving us feeling unheard and undervalued as customers. Following our departure, the manager reached out by calling us, stating that our order had been overlooked due to a printer malfunction caused by a lack of paper. While we appreciated the belated apology the damage had already been done. The missed opportunity to dine at Amayjen and the initial dismissive attitude from the manager had eroded our confidence and trust in the establishment. In conclusion, despite the prestigious recognition bestowed upon the chef, our visit to Amayjen was marred by poor service, a significant oversight, and a dismissive response from the manager. The restaurant's failure to provide an acceptable dining experience tarnished the reputation that drew us there in the first place. Regrettably, I cannot recommend Amayjen based on our...
Read moreWent to Amayjen for the first time for brunch on Saturday. My wife has been to their Fielding restuarant a number of times and has raved about it but this was the first time I had been and the first time either of us had been to the new Palmy location. Unfortunately, as far as brunch goes this was not very impressive. I ordered the big breakfast and my wife ordered the Amayjen bowl with chicken. My big breakfast arrived with scrambled eggs and then I realised I hadn't been asked how I wanted my eggs cooked. Also there was no tatty scone as per the menu description. Hey, I can handle that the actual meal being different from the menu but would expect to be told when ordering. So, two things missed by the waiting staff. My wife's bowl was supposed to have vinaigrette - she couldn't notice it - and the whole dish was very bland which is not easy to do with fired chance. We ordered coffee and it arrived promptly but we were never asked if we wanted another coffee. Prices were just above average but not too high. Overall, a rather disappointing dinner at an establishment that promised much more than bland and average to below-average fare. There is loads of great places to go in Palmy for brunch, and give note location, the need to draw people with something at least a little special. Also, would have thought they would want to be enticing people who come for breakfast and lunch to come back for dinner and again, you would want to at least give something a little bit special to do so. I'll probably go back for dinner just to compare, but we will not be back for brunch again. There are just loads of better...
