This review is a composite of two very different experiences at Little India. We first went last week with friends who had been before and dined in. My wife and I were very impressed with the food and value. So last night when she suggested she call in or a takeaway on her way home I was delighted. This is where is gets frustrating. Dine in I had lamb rogan josh which was very good. Last night I had the chicken version (by accident, she ordered the wrong dish) but the difference in quality was appalling. The takeaway lacked flavor, had lots of small pieces of chicken (almost like flakes) amongst the chicken chunks but even worse was the sauce was terribly watery. My guess is that the dish had been previously frozen and reheated. Probably the second worst I have had in New Zealand, the other had definately been frozen as I saw them defrost it. So, would I go again given the two very different experiences? I might i I was dining in as you could send it back but not or a takeaway, which is a shame. The challenge or the owner is to maintain consistency which is clearly lacking. I hope they get it right...
Read moreSo, this is the follow up to my last review of two very different experiences. A great dine in and a poor takeaway. The question is always going to be what’s the third time like? Well, after seeing my review Harry reached out to try to find out what went so wrong the second time. Now to me, that’s always a good sign, someone who cares about the food they serve. He spent nearly half an hour on the phone trying to get to the bottom of the problem. He suggested that he would provide our next meals not only at his cost, but he delivered them too. Now that is classy. The crux of the matter though is what was the curry like? This time I had a chicken tikka Marsala and it was bloody beautiful. Right up there with the best I’ve had. So then, would we go again? Definitely. And confident that if there was a problem, Little India would own it and sort it out. I don’t know if they will ever establish why the differential was so wide the first and second time but I’d trust them to get it right next time. And I’d highly recommend you give them a go. Great food and great people and happy to keep customers...
Read moreDrove from Napier to Palmerston North for a show and the 3 of us desired a hearty curry.........
Walked into a very clean restaurant smiling staff and a warm welcome.
Breads were beautiful
Curry was earthy and not a ridiculous red colour with heaps of cream which was amazing and refreshing .
15 min wait with there being a large amount of people there.
Atmosphere was chill and traditional.
I tried all 3 of the Curries.
Butter Panneer was like no other Chicken Korma was infused with so much flavour brsting through it.
Mine was the Tikka Masaala and my god it did not dissapoint.
Aromatic, earthy and I had it Indian Hot which was mouth watering and everything I needed on a cold night.
Prices are very much on par with other Indian Restaurants when eating in.
If you want a $10 lunch deal with a curry that is 90% cream and a standard yellow or orange I suggest you go as where.
You will get the best of the best here and I highly recommend it. It will be my regular whenever I go through Palmerston North from now on.
Great Whiskey options and not a huge ridiculous menu to choose from...
