We were customers at the first shop you opened in Dunedin. Great burgers for an affordable price ($5-8 for a burger!), especially when you were a student. Great choices, great taste, nice toasted buns, crispy shoe string fries. We were even there when you opened your second branch in Mosgiel. Same quality of food, affordable, and a pleasure to eat your burgers. The buns were coming from a local bakery. A couple of years later, you started expanding throughout New Zealand. We were happy to have a branch in Christchurch. At the beginning it was a great experience. Nice burgers with a great taste. A bit questionable though why the buns still had to come from the bakery in Mosgiel. Christchurch has got some amazing local bakeries, and it probably would not have taken much effort to find a good bakery there who could provide you with fresh buns. As the years passed by, things started to deteriorate. We witnessed the deletion of ¾ of your menu. I remember a nice vegetarian burger with a chickpea-pate, fresh vegetables, and a toasted bun. This burger has since completely vanished. Additionally, the buns were no longer getting toasted, the patties started to become tasteless, and the salad is suddenly shredded (which makes it hard to eat). Your prices became more expensive. Though $12 for a burger was not bad. Now we are living in Palmerston North and the experience has not been the best. Every time we went there, we heard yelling and screaming from the kitchen, the wait times became ridiculous, and you mixed up or forgot orders. 1 year ago, the buns were still imported from the bakery in Mosgiel (why???), not toasted at all (I do not like soggy buns constantly falling apart with every bite! I even asked on my order to get it toasted but this was completely ignored), and the prices have increased 100%. The burger now costs at least $16 which is not affordable for a family. The fries are also soggy and floppy. The absolute worst: you are showing the worst shrinkflation of all the fast-food places. We ordered from you again yesterday: normally a burger was more than enough to fill my husband's stomach (no, he is not fat!). Now, you need fries (or a second burger) to get full. The expansion did not seem to have made you any favors! Unfortunately, yesterday was our last...
Read moreHi, I have some concerns about our meal at the ReBurger store in Palmerston North at lunchtime today. We arrived and made our order through the terminal. There was a handwritten note attached near the counter saying they didn't have coke or diet coke available. We placed our order and my partner entered a note asked for the bacon to be cooked very crispy on her burger. The menu description stated crispy bacon but she likes hers cooked more than that. There were two other people eating in the restaurant at the time so it was very quiet. We went and selected a table. One of the tables still had leftover food and rubbish on it and the other two in the area had food remnants on the surface and were sticky. Obviously they hadn't been cleaned or even wiped down recently. We used napkins to clean the residue off the table. We received the notification that the food was ready and I went to collect the order. When uplifting the order I was told they didn't have Sprite Zero available, but had coke and coke zero despite of the notification we had seen. The staff member wasn't friendly or engaging and seemed disinterested in serving me. The meals were less than appetising. The bacon on both burgers was limp and undercooked. The fries with my meal were cold around the edges and lukewarm in the middle of the stack. My partners kumara fries were burnt and not palatable. My partners Jammy Dodger was ok, but my Dirty Duke wasn't good. Aside from the undercooked bacon, the buns were cold and the meat pattie was very small. I left most of my meal uneaten and my partner could only eat a few of the kumara fries before giving up. We left the store without any interaction from staff. The disappointing meals aside, the lack of hygiene standards was the most concerning aspect. If the public area was that unclean then I have major concerns regarding the food preparation and cooking areas. I hadn't eaten here before and was keen to try a new food experience. After spending $60 for two burger meals that were not good I will not...
Read moreSimply unimpressed. Upon first glance this place seemed awesome 😎. Cool hip vibe with an excellent atmosphere right as you walk in... Then you wait and wait and wait and during that wait if you have a table anywhere near the toilet you start to smell all sorts of nasty oniony aromas.
Almost laughed as I saw the face of a lady who was unfortunate enough to have to use the facilities during her visit. Absolute disgust covered her whole expression as she walked out.
Then the food arrives and as you rip into that first fiendish bite you think, 'dang, this is amazing.' Until you realize it's just the hunger talking and you are eating a bun with heaps of sauce and just a little tiny bit of everything else that you expected to get with your burger (And the buns are simply slapped together without any love). After all, I did go there to order a burger, not a bun but after eating whatever it was I realized I felt pretty yuck and they need to consider renaming to 'Rebun' at their current rate. Overall, they need better management or they won't last long.
Another pro tip: If you order with anyone else there is no way to identify whose is whose.
Had to try to see what the all the fuss was about but will not...
