(oldish) news. The Brewery and Tasting room reopened at 10 Harbour St, which is found between The Collective and Whitestone city on Friday 3 June 2022.
Oamaru's very own famous Belgian style craft (now, not-so-nano) brewers have a full scale tasting room in Harbour St in the old Victorian quarter. The range, style of & ambience will have you thinking you really are in Belgium. Except the prices are NZ Dollars - so are maybe a little higher than the other so called craft beer places around. But their beer is authentic and still hand crafted - and so much better than many so called "Belgian style ales" that you find these days are (note proudly no Stella Artois is served here mate!).
They unashamedly do NOT make a beer for every taste, so don't ask for something they don't sell. Like any kind of regular IPA. They actually do have an IPA guest beer from Rhyme & Reason. Which is a great beer. But there are so many other beers on offer so you'll be spoiled for choice.
Every beer they make or hosts, oozes class, authenticity, attention to detail and true taste. Guest craft beers, ciders and wines are served. If you're a hardened wine only drinker some of these top notch ales might have you rethinking your notion of what "boring old beer' is. Great food options inudong fantastic cheese slates with an ever changing selection of fine artisan cheeses from around the country.
You can also buy bottles, gift packs (or a dozen bottles in a carton - if you ask the bar staff or brewers really nicely) to take home with you.
Note: the current tiny tasting room 1.0 closed in July 2021 to make way for expansion into tasting room 2.0 - again in Harbour Street, which fully re opened on 3 June 2022.
Tasting room 2.0 still features the same old wine (and whingers, including me) just in newer bottles and surroundings.
Maybe I'll see you there.
If you do visit, tell Michael or LeeAnn that Greg's review sent ya - they most definitely will...
Read moreWe had been here before and were impressed with the good beers and friendly staff. We even recommended the brewery to many people and kept an eye out on their beer at supermarkets to buy. We are beer fans, have brewed our own beer and I’ve even been to Belgium 3 times. Recently, we made a weekend trip to Oamaru to enjoy their beer. Unfortunately, a couple of the staff weren’t friendly or helpful. We wanted to enquire about bottled beer to buy but one lady took the menu away and walked away. We would have been more than happy to pay for beer even if it was more expensive as we don’t mind and have previously purchased much pricier beers from around the world. The other guy we asked wasn’t friendly. We even overheard the table beside us say how staff were also snarky to them. We left feeling disappointed. We literally made a weekend trip to go there to spend our money. Out of the very many craft beer breweries we have visited around the world, this has been our first and only...
Read moreWhat a moment, what a venue, what a brewer/boss. I went there 2 times at the end of November. I had a wonderful time with my girlfriend. Gorgeous beers, brewed with passion, properly and in a respectful way of the Belgian traditions. Food is so close to the one you could find in the Flanders. I come from the north of France, near the Belgium border and I definitely felt like home. The ambiance, the furniture, the lights, the details in the decoration: ❤️ The service was also lovely and our biggest regret is not to have tried the beer soup.
We've been lucky to speak with the passionate and captivating Michael. Thank you for taking some time to share your passion (not only about beer, but about culture and so on!)
It is definitely a must go in Oamaru. Not only for beer but for the...
