Staff were very pleasant and the place was very busy - quiz night and heritage week. The food? Appalling is the kindest word we can find. We ordered 3 appetisers to share and didn’t finish any of them. 1 Fried Wontons were covered in some sort of a ‘cornflake’ looking mixture and deep fried for far too long. The filling looked and tasted like canned dog food. You could taste that the oil they had been fried was rancid too. Salt and pepper calamari. The calamari was fairly tender despite being covered in the same ‘cornflake’ mixture and deep fried. No salt or pepper discernible and the sauces were inedible. I suggest the chef looks up tempura batter and gets a new recipe ( and new oil). The ‘piece de resistance’ ....not. I think it was called mysteries of the deep or something similar and described as seafood chowder. It was a bowl of inedible sludge! Absolutely no sign of any sort of seafood or corn. The only edible item all was the bread that accompanied the sludge (sorry chowder). A meal to forget! Stay away if you have any appreciation of well...

Went here on Saturday 17th April lucky I rung that afternoon to re confirm my booking because we were booked for the sunday rather the Saturday but it was no biggie would have if we turned up and were weren't able to get our seats but anyway apart from that our food arrived to our table, however my son and I had to wait as our meals must have been given to someone else as we didnt get our meals the same time as the rest of our table, the young lady gave our water to another table mine and my sons onion rings looked like a bunch of mattered mess the rest of the steak meals had nice formed onion rings while mine and my sons were a mess food was ok, didn't fancy the chips with the skin on they were soggy and had no crunch, we were at the back quiet cramped at the back theres really only enough room for one larger table not one large with 2 smaller ones, my son enjoyed the steak as it was his birthday dinner he chose Fat Sally's I on the other hand would have...

Food was ok but not great value. I had lamb shank which wasn't 'melt in the mouth' standard veg was hard, seemed to be a trend in most places, and there was little flavour over all. My wife had chowder which was 'ok' but not great. The bar was quite busy but had little atmosphere but I don't know why because it was modern and tidy although the table was a bit tacky in that it needed a good clean. The over riding issue was an hour wait for food. They had a party in so we thought this was likely the cause but my wife tasked the waiter who said they'd miss placed our order! It could happen in a busy kitchen but highlights a issue we didn't get anywherelse on our extended travel. They apologised and deducted about $7 from our bill which was fair enough but overall it was not great value. Nothing stood out above...

Great service, great food and great vibe. I was recommended this restaurant by the hotel receptionist and it was a great experience. The prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly, positive and happy to help. 'Sally', it turns out, is a fixture at the bar leading from the front. The ribeye steak meal I ordered was large and cooked to perfection. I just managed to squeeze in their Bombe Alaska dessert which was also delectable. At 6-7pm on a Tuesday evening, the place was packed and there was a great atmosphere. Would definitely return if I'm ever back in Oamaru.

I went here for the first time last month and tried their Steak Sandwich and Pasta. Both were really good and seemed like a great deal, so I was excited to bring some friends. Last week, I went with my family, and the experience was a bit different. The food wasn’t as great as before—just okay and a little disappointing. But I’m not totally turned off and would definitely give it another shot. Fingers crossed the Steak Sandwich will be as tasty as it was on my first visit! I’ve added a couple of photos from last month and three from last week for comparison.

I would say really great food! The blue cod fish and chips was pretty fresh , and go perfectly with the sauce. Pretty crispy outside and tender and delicate inside:) The ribeye steak was amazing. Goes really well with the creamy mushroom sauce. Ribeye of such quality would be much more expensive to have in Auckland. Seafood chowder is quite creamy and has a lot of seafood in it. The portion is pretty big and great value. Both my friend and myself are pretty full. Strongly recommend to those who look for great food in Oamaru.
