A simple cafe which produces excellent coffee and breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy with lots of banana, walnuts and caramel sauce. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon rashes were just right. Egg yolks were thick and deep yellow - fresh and grass fed. We would go back just for the pancakes. Black coffee was served with hot water on the side without asking. The Roost provided the best breakfast we have had in 12 days in NZ.

We came here for an early morning coffee and scone, staff were friendly and happy to open up when we arrived a few minutes before opening. The frittata was a touch expensive, but it was delicious and filled me up. Coffee was good, perfect temperature, your classic cafe coffee. I will be back here in the future, thanks The Roost!

This is a great little spot. Open bang on 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning. The usual breakfast options, bacon and eggs, egg Benedict, big breakfast etc. I'm a big breakfast person. I enjoyed my breakfast and coffee at a table with a nice street view and pleasant service at a reasonable price.

Biggest mistake of my day!!!! Very disorganised staff that had no idea what they were doing. Started off with an apology that the coffee was going to take 10-15 minutes. The cafe wasn’t very full but had plenty of tables waiting to be cleared. I cleared one table, picking up waste food off the floor and finding a damp cloth to wipe the tables down. 2 adults for a pie, a coffee and a mocha. 1 adult for a coffee and cinnamon scroll and 1 adult for green tea and a Lolly cake. Not a massive deal. 1 x pie arrived, totally consumed before second pie arrived. The coffee and mocha arrived. Tea arrived with dirty cup!! Mocha cup was badly chipped, cutlery to eat pies were dirty. All coffees were like warm. Cinnamon roll had tiniest amount of cinnamon and was doughy. I had approached the serving girl to enquire about the cakes and coffee and tea and was advised “I’ll get to that when I’ve dealt to this mess!” Pointing at a pile of dirty dishes next to the coffee machine! I’ll not be returning and will advise people to avoid the unwelcoming and dirty...

Really cute little place, coffee was very nice too which I took to go - with a shot of caramel...it's my thing. Handy for us at the time due to the very early opening time which was great. Nice and tidy with outdoor seating at the front and back. Great if you have little ones or just want a nice quiet spot for a hot drink. Only disappointment is 2 x friends I was both bought a muffin from the shop and seperate times on the same day, and both were quite disappointed commenting the taste wasn't that great and they didn't seem very fresh, one of them saying there muffin felt like it had been frozen but not properly defrosted (or offered to heat up)..and on a cold morning was less than ideal, so that was a...

One of the few places open in Oamaru today. Ordered a milkshake, smoothie and two omelettes. Smoothie was more like a milkshake. The omelettes take an hour to arrive. Obviously very short staffed but we were not warned of the long wait when ordering. Only appeared to 2 or 3 staff. Very friendly but I could hear them apologizing a lot. "Sorry" was on repeat. Toilets were clean but very short on toilet paper and paper hand towels. Food cabinet appeared to have very little food in them. Omelettes, once received, were very nice. Saw many people come in and leave again without ordering. I appreciate they were open but maybe they shouldn't have. I read some reviews and "short staffed" seems to be a...
