Joe's Garage Five Mile — Restaurant in South Island

Greatly disappointed. We went to JG because its reputation at home is great. So sad we were disappointed. It took a wee while to be served right from go standing around at the door. Then once seated, we were getting restless. There were 4 of us, and 2 other couples in the entire place. 3 staff on front and 2 in the back. Orders were taken and food delivered, was correct & about 30 minutes later. We had to ask for drinks and we were never asked again. Our meals done, we waited for a dessert menu... we went and got one ourselves, then went and ordered it ourselves. Meanwhile. We were the last 4 and it was 6.30pm. The vacuum cleaner started up and floors were wet mopped. Now we felt awkward! If these girls got off their dam phones, we may have had decent service. No dishes were taken away during our meals. Initial what do you want and that was it? Milk for drinks was left in the sun. Couldn't see out the windows for the dirt on the glass, no wet floor signs put up, bees all round the patrons ducking and diving. We heard one complain to the waitress also. Main course was 2 out of 5, dessert was cancelled bar 1 and then they couldn't find it order when we went to pay! Plenty of room for improvement here I'm afraid and no, we wont be back. Masks are mandatory...

first of all we turned up at 8pm google said it was open till 9pm so we walked in and the young girl said we are closed I said you're open till 9 pm on Google she then asked the other lady if we could be served she said yes as long as we order fast (there were currently 3 other tables of people eatting there food so we ordered food and drinks the food turned up like 5 minutes later I then asked the waitress if out drinks were coming as I had seen they were sitting on the bench she said they will turn up when ready they turned up the meal and drinks weren't too bad we then waiting another 10 mins after finishing our meal for service as they two waitresses were too busy on there phones when one finally came over we ordered 2 fanta drinks with no ice she turns up with one fanta with ice and a alcoholic drink I said this isn't my drink she then proceeded to argue with me that was my drink but in the end finally got me my fanta with no ice when I went to pay one of them asked how the meal and service was explained how it was and she just said ok and carried on doing other jobs take mind there was only 3 other tables which weren't getting served often either...

Queenstown is such a popular tourist destination, along with that comes alot of hungry mouths to feed and tonight was definitely no exception. I'm fully aware that you can never guess how busy a hospitality establishment may get especially during the week, but tonight was definitely one of those surprisingly overly-busy nights for sure. Firstly I was amazed at how calm the service staff stayed during such hectic circumstances, they were apologetic but also very attentive over the many tables that were full even with some customers being short tempered. Secondly I'm impressed at how composed the kitchen staff were.. at one point there were only 2 of them working side by side efficiently to get orders out and I can say that I saw not 1 dish go back nor a frown in sight. In all honestly the timing seemed only just a fraction behind a normally packed kitchen but boy was the food we received more than satisfactory.

The staff on tonight were amazing and honestly should really be proud of what they accomplished given the unforeseen circumstances. Thanks again team,...
