Heliworks Queenstown Helicopter Flights — Attraction in South Island

We booked a last minute flight.

We followed the instructions to call for a weather check 1-2 hours before our flight and were cleared to go. Upon arriving at the location near Frankton, we found plenty of parking, though the road to the facility had several potholes. The staff greeted us warmly and guided us through some administrative steps, like filling out personal details and providing our weight. After watching a safety video, the pilot introduced himself and informed us that we might not be able to visit the Remarkables due to heavy cloud cover, which was initially disappointing.

However, just as we were walking towards the tarmac, the skies cleared, and the pilot decided we could proceed to the Remarkables after all! The flight itself was nothing short of incredible. We landed on soft snow, which was at least two feet deep, and although it was freezing cold, the experience was surreal. A photographer helped us capture some great moments, and soon after, we were on our return flight.

Do not hesitate to book with Heliworks!! We did the Heli-cruise-heli + ernslaw burn and it was life changing. Booked in via agent Alpine Luxury, our original date was cancelled due to weather so we rearranged our entire holiday to try again a few days later and it was so worth it.

As a fairly hesitant flyer I was scared for my first time in a helicopter but made to feel very calm by the two pilots, the flights were incredibly smooth and felt so in control even when flying super close to the snow capped mountains.

Ours was a group of 8 (+2 pilots) and everyone rotated around each time we got out so people had chances to sit at the windows. I also didn’t feel super rushed in our landings, we got to get out and enjoy and take as many photos as we liked which was nice.

The cruise with picnic was also great and to do it all before the groups of tourists who drove in arrived to Milford Sound was a major plus.
