Seriously good and worth it! We stayed in Wanaka for 10 days of skiing and The Doughbin quickly became our family’s spot every morning at 7am without fail. Walking in to such a warm welcome first thing in the morning really set the tone for our day. The whole team were always so upbeat, positive and smiling, and genuinely happy to see every customer it was amazing to watch.
A special shout-out to the kiwi manager and French sandwich maker and English baker girl who were smiling and laughing every single moment. Really made us remember what good service was we believe it has to be the best service in otago if not South Island.
The food was equally impressive. Over 10 days we tried nearly everything the pies are unbeatable and at $7 Cheap! For Wanaka (steak and mushroom was our favourite), the cream doughnuts were always freshly creamed and filled and danish apricot and almond croissants were delicious and still warm, and Coffee strong hot and good it was excellent and consistent and fast to be made they are quick here! We also saw all the locals builders and workers going in and they seemed to know them by name and what coffees they get was fantastic to watch very poetic. Can also recommend the bacon and egg muffins yum they would heat them us for us freshly made that morning.
The Doughbin isn’t just a bakery it’s a classic Kiwi experience with top-notch food, great coffee, and the friendliest staff you’ll meet in town. We can’t wait to come back on our...
Read moreGrowing up in Wanaka was an amazing experience, and the Doughbin was one of the constants of the town. An iconic bakery, serving up hot and fresh fare on a daily basis. Countless weekends where we would call in here after a game of rugby for a pie and a cream doughnut.
Well.... 40 years later and the doughbin is still the best bakery in town.
Visiting Wanaka for my mums birthday, we decided to pop into town for lunch.
The display was packed with fresh produce, and was a delight to see.
I chose the classic mince pie and of course a cream doughnut.
We also ordered a steak and cheese and a lamb and mint pie.
The pastry had changed slightly (to be expected after such a long time) but I think this was for the better. Light and flakey, it certainly provided a good flavour base for the pie fillings.
The surprise favourite pie was the lamb and mint, with everybody demanding another bite!
The highlight, as expected, was the doughnut. Oh, and the friendly sparrows, always present as they know good food when they see it!
All in all, a fantastic lunch in an incredible setting. Grab a pie, go and sit at the lake and let all of your...
Read moreRude and poor customer service…. I live in Christchurch and has been travelling to wanaka every summer on a regular basis. My first stop at Wanaka has always been the bakery, specially for the seafood pies - it almost became a tradition. Today I can in for the first visit this season and a new mature woman, that I have never seen before, was very rude and disrespectful to me. She rudely said that she has no seafood pies and never had any and that the bakery never sold any seafood pies and that I should get lost… she even checked the bag to make sure I didn’t take anything extra…. I felt that I was instantly judged as soon as walked into the store and was disrespected by a grumpy woman who dismissed my positive experiences at the bakery in the last several years. Happened on Saturday 4/01...
