It was a rainy April morning, and Dunedin was wrapped in one of its signature mists. A perfect day to seek comfort and breakfast at The Percs turned out to be just that.

The place offers a cozy, welcoming vibe, ideal for easing into the day. I went with “The One”—a hearty plate featuring toasted ciabatta, hashbrowns, grilled tomatoes, and a perfectly poached egg, topped with a tangy barbecue sauce. Simple, satisfying, and well put together.

The menu has plenty of other tempting options too: a delightful frittata, various styles of toast served with eggs or bacon, rich chowder soups, and a selection of freshly baked pastries.

And of course—the coffee. A real highlight. The Percs serves a thoughtful selection of beans, with brews that are both flavorful and smooth. Whether you’re into a bold espresso or something more mellow, the quality shines through.

Overall, it’s an easy 5 out of 5. The food is genuinely enjoyable—especially the frittata and chowder. The coffee adds that extra touch. Service is warm and attentive, and the ambiance fits perfectly with a misty Dunedin morning. Visitors will likely enjoy the atmosphere just as much as...

I've lived in Dunedin for 3 and half years, this is the most disappointing cafe experience I've ever had. I'm talking about the service. I arrived at 8:45 am, ordered just a small cheese roll for my son, and I waited by the counter. There were only 7 customers in the cafe, all finished their dish. I stood by the counter, watching 3 kitchen staff laughing and talking to each other. 10 minutes past, all 3 kitchen staff noticed me watching them. Nobody, including the waitress, bothered to check with my order. I went back to my car to comfort my son and back again, it was 8:57. The waitress saw me, went in the kitchen and pointed to sth. apparently where the orders are, one staff just started to take out a box full of cheese roll. I asked the waitress how far the cheese roll is, she just lied to my face saying that there are only 2 orders before mine. for 12 mins I was the only customer at the counter and nobody else came in. I told her I was in a hurry so don’t bother. She was like ‘oh, okay’, didn’t even apologise when I walked out of the door. Guess she must thought I...

My latte wasn't even a latte. I have barista-Ed so I know, but it was still nice. Not burned and good temperature. Food was nice, but not amazing. Had the bacon but tie with egg. But the low score is mainly because I had to wait freaking 40 minutes for my food because they 'forgot' or that it didn't go through to the kitchen.

If you have customers at least ensure that their order is complete. They just apologised when I told them. Plus, one egg was good, the other was average (not flowy). Felt like they were a lil racist too, to be honest.

My coffee was obviously cold by the time the food came (I purposely left a bit to have with my meal). Not to mention parking, hopefully I haven't gotten a ticket yet. Disappointing. Regret spending my money here and coming...

Perc CafĂ© comes highly recommended by the i site, but our breakfast experience was mixed. - Food: - Salmon Bagel:Basic and slightly dry, lacking the wow factor. - Eggs Benedict: Average, with a pale and flavorless hollandaise sauce. - French Toast: A standout! The best we’ve had – a perfect combination of berries, mascarpone, poached pear, and nougat. A must-try. - Drinks: - Latte:Decent but unremarkable. - Mocha: Watery and served cold, disappointing for a cafĂ© of this reputation. - Ambience:Simple and functional, but nothing extraordinary. Overall, while most items were underwhelming, the French Toast is worth the visit. A little extra attention to the other menu items could elevate the ambience.
