One of our favourite places to go. Staff are very tolerant of people who are entitled and/or obnoxious. In regards to criticisms below: Payment is up front in most "eat all you want" establishments for obvious reasons. We have no problem with this. Wait times can vary, popular restaraunts are popular for good reason - so either come early/late if you dont want to wait the long 7 to 10 minutes for your food. If you want to go to a not-so-busy place, choose one with a consistent 3 star or less rating.... it wont be so busy, for obvious reasons and will probably deserve the lower rating. 😂 Hopefully most discerning diners read most reviews and don't take the views of a few entitled diners who seem to want a restaraunt all to themselves. Avoid level 2, they have a 20 dollar selection going at the moment includes starter main and desert. So we have one server she comes up offers the soup of the day which was seafood chowder only, would've been nice to include a couple of options as seafood dosent apply to a vast array of palates so I declined, next up was the main which we ordered sweet and sour with noodles came back with beef and noodles so that was wrong, than desert came usual pancakes and ice cream which was subpar at best. We also ordered a jug of coke zero as a drink which I cam bet top dollar was not. The waiting in between courses no bread available? Can't get another serving of something else. Horrible...

We were new visitors to New Plymouth & didn't know where to find a tasty, reasonably priced evening meal. When we walked into Gengy's a waiter approached us and explained the process of collecting the ingredients for our meal and having them cooked. The flavours of the various salads, meats, fish, vegetables, sauces & spices created an amazing meal. The waitress was very friendly, attentive and made the experience excellent.
