The Metrotel Motel — Hotel in North Island

Had an outstanding 5 day stay here end of Jan 2019. One adult & a 7 month old baby. If this is a Motel then it's an extremely high standard of Motel, and I've been to a number of 5 star hotels here and abroad so believe me. You'd be fooled into thinking you are in a Hotel in my opinion, and that would be my first thumbs up for this place, flashy, clean, fresh, and very tidy on first impression. Some Hotel rooms are smaller than a Studio here which is what we had. The reception was awesome, very interactive with my tired baby who loved the attention, and very friendly making the 6 hour trip to get there round off nicely late afternoon. Thank you very much Metrotel, look forward to seeing you again in the future.

PROS -

Balcony! smokers or vapers this is the Motel for you. This is an outstanding feature given most Hotels/Motels have no balcony let alone a private area right outside your room to smoke or vape. Make sure you respect the rules however and close the door behind you. And be mindful of other guests and wind direction, everyone has a balcony. Big thumbs up for this feature, smokers are killing themselves & stink, but us Vapers are a 'huge' market, and this feature is a deal maker imo. Truth be told this is why I mostly chose Metrotel, the balcony, & it was clear on the website also regarding, as well as being central to town. Outstanding, very grateful this was available after a long day of activities with a 7 month old to wind down on. I hope people don't abuse this ability and wreck it for everyone in the future.

Parking - Private off street parking. Right off stairs and elevator.

Central to town - 2 minute walk to cafes & shops. Mall is across road.

Quiet rooms - I was there over a weekend that was jam packed, couldn't hear a thing around us from inside the room, was great.

Easy access - Elevator for elderly, young kids, or just moving gear around.

Free Wifi - Even though not needed, it was cool to have the option, some people would definitely appreciate this.

Housekeeping - Daily & thorough.

CONS -

View - Well that is a bummer if this is your bag. However being in town I didn't expect to see waves crashing. It's two roads back from the beach. This would be about the only con I could pluck but personally it wasn't a big deal to me.

Wish we could have stayed longer. This was our first time in New Plymouth and very happy to have chosen the Metrotel motel for our overnight stay. The reception staff were very polite and welcoming. The studio room is the largest we've stayed in from all others. Beautifully presented, clean, large comfortable bed, kitchenette to cook your own meals, bathroom with a shower that accommodates the tall and wide comfortably, nice and cool air conditioning system, double sliding doors going out to the balcony where you can sit for drinks and snacks. Didn't need to take the car out as everything we needed was in walking distance. Just a 2 minute walk for a stroll down the seaside board walk, very refreshing with nice views of the sea and city. Restaurant, bars and other stores close by. We dined at a restaurant 2 minute walk downtown. Stoned grilled steak meal cooked to perfection. I would have to say this is by far one of the best motel we've ever stayed in and best one night stay over. We will definitely be back and hopefully sooner than later. Thank you...

A nice large studio room with modern finish and features. Well furnished with large comfortable super king bed, two arm chairs, desk, dining table and chairs, plus outdoor setting on a balcony. Double glazed windows cut down the city noise for a better sleeping experience, and a good sized kitchenette and bathroom complete the package. Reasonable value for the features offered and its central location too. Only drawback we had was inability to cancel after booking - we were offered accommodation with family in the area but the property were unwilling to budge on their cancellation policy even though we gave several weeks notice (and they could easily have resold the booking with the city fully booked), so we ended up using the...
