The Gateau House Albany — Restaurant in Upper Harbour

Very disappointed with the service and the selected cake. Went into order a birthday cake for my husband on Monday this week to pick up on Wednesday today. First of all, he wasn't very helpful with explaining what's inside the cake when I asked. Then after I paid for the cake that I wanted and as I was leaving the shop, I said to him that could I have a little message chocolate plate. And he said it's very easy and quick to do that he could do it for me when I pick up the cake today. I went to pick up the cake this afternoon and asked for the chocolate message plate. AFTER he wrote the plate and packed up the cake, he said to me, "$3 please." I was shocked! He should've told me BEFORE he does the plate. I've bought another same value cake few months ago and asked for the same chocolate plate with NO EXTRA COST. It's not about the $3 or $5 whatever it costs, I felt like I've been treated differently serving by different employees. Very unprofessional. Unfortunately I can't say I'll be back...

RUDE WORKER: I was studying here with 2 of my friends, we were minding our own business whilst being quiet and one of the old worker with short hair came up to us signalling for us to leave and asking us if we can buy more desserts in order to stay in the shop even though we have already bought 2 things. There was other people that was also studying but she only warned us about how “this is not a library this is a cafe”. Felt personally attacked because we paid to eat desserts here but to also study in a nice environment. We would understand if they were closing or if the shop was busy, however it was not busy and many tables were vacant. We even asked another worker if it was okay to study here and she said it was not a problem. Otherwise, the other young worker was really nice...

Cozy atmosphere, warm service, and excellent coffee I’ve been visiting Gateau House quite often over the past few weeks, and every time has been a lovely experience. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and the staff are always welcoming with warm smiles that truly brighten your day. Their coffee is consistently well-crafted—smooth, flavorful, and made with real skill. I’m also impressed by how clean the cup is after finishing, which says a lot about their attention to detail.
