Just moved to Grey Lynn and so thought we’d check out our local burger joint. Ordered a takeaway at 650 on a Saturday night so as expected they were quite busy. Food took nearly half an hour to be made. Ordered the jalapeño poppers (good, but quite cheesy inside - husband thought the cheese was too much and overpowering) but I enjoyed although they didn’t have the usual jalapeño kick), a large rosemary fries (yum, fries were cooked well, nice and crispy and were a good size). For the burgers we ordered the bishop and the chicken burger (standard one forget the name). The chicken burger was decidedly meh, it was a tiny thin piece of chicken that was over cooked and therefore quite dry. Burger Felt very bready. Not great. The bishop burger was much better but once again the meat was way over cooked - as it’s thin smash Patties, it meant the patty ended up quite dry and crispy. I added some lettuce to it which added a bit of juiciness. All in all it was an ok meal, not terrible but not great. Would like to try again but perhaps on a more quiet night and not at peak time as it definitely felt that their business contributed to...
Read moreGood but not great yet - BUT it has the serious potential to be. Got the basic burger to see if it can hold its own without all the special sauces and additions and it was okay, but Angus + Wagyu meat still amenoff slightly dry at times and whilst the bun was toasted, it too didn't have quite the X factor just yet - but again, it so close! Seasoned regular sized fries were also more than enough for 1 person and overall okay, but they were over cooked - likely due to the insane amounts of orders all coming in on this Sunday night dinner rush.
I feel for the guys cooking and managing the orders bc they didn't let up at all in the hour I was there dining in - did take 25 min to get it at the table, but 99% of the orders appeared to be take away (in bags).
They've got 4-5 tables in the immediate area inside and I think a back patio too if you don't want to be sitting where the crowds are standing around waiting for their orders.
Still worth a try for sure AND if I lived nearby I'd definitely still make the walk here routinely, but there are still some key smashed burger competitors out there that would be more worth the...
Read moreI have been to a few gourmet burger places especially since in the last 10 years it has become more competitive in that scene with quite a few different new places popping up here and there. However, for myself and I believe quite a few others, Burger Geek has come up on top. My work colleagues and I regularly come here due to it’s funky, stylish atmosphere and of course, their awesome burgers and Oreo shakes! I personally love their ‘Broli’ burger as I believe it is the most tasty chicken burger I have ever had. Sometimes I even love to add an egg to it for a small fee. Speaking of fees, this place is not only cheaper than Burger Fuel and Burger Wisconsin but also better! If you’re looking for a new place in town with great burgers I recommend! Yes, they have Gluten Free, Vegetarian and...
