My sister and I have been going to Cafe Thirty Nine for many years. It used to be excellent and we always ordered 2 x 39’s, the bacon was delicious.
As I have move away from Auckland the last 10 years, any time I came home one of the first stops was always Cafe Thirty Nine for the 39er. Yummy. One year I came home to find the cafe had new owners sadly.
The portion size over the years has got smaller and more expensive but you sadly accept that. What I don’t expect is to find that the BACON IS PRE-COOKED and DRYED OUT. DISAPPOINTING to say the least. I realised this last weekend after asking for the bacon to be cooked in a frying pan instead of how they now usually cook it and it came out DRY AND SHRIVELED instead of lovely and moist with the cooking juice included.
No more 39’s for me. I have been having their omelette but unfortunately that too has the dried out bacon with it. We continue to go as my sister still enjoys her 39er. I think she just loves the pesto though.
The cafe is never as busy as it used to be, they are never flat out busy when we go, so I just don’t understand why they have to Pre-cook their bacon making it unappealing.
Never mind I have found a fantastic Cafe out on Lincoln Road which has a fantastic Green...
Read moreHow did I not know the best cocktail bar in Auckland was right under my nose. We wandered in last night, the atmosphere was cool as was the music. But that was before we met the talented bar keeps and their outrageously fabulous cocktail menu. I went with the banana cake cocktail, followed by the Plantain Curry cocktail. I had never had anything like either of them before. All four if us were blown away by how delicious and spectacular our drinks were. The service and complementary homemade spicy nuts, bought back memories of days when bars were cool and intimate, and the drinks were made with passion. Thankyou fabulous bar people, can't wait to come back. Such a great place, I had my birthday...
Read moreMy friend had the 🥓 buttie and coffee ☕️ deal. I had a large flat white which came in a massive soup cup. 🍵 This was excellent because I was cold and I could warm my hands up😄
We sat in the warmer courtyard outside, which is a real sanctuary, away from the bustle of Ponsonby Road The bacon buttie came in two slices of white toast 🍞 , it was great, with an extra fried 🍳 and tomato sauce. Only $11.50!!! The deal for coffee and buttie was $10 which is a super good deal for an expensive location like this. Personally I am soo over wrestling with the likes of toasted ciabatta which doesn’t absorb the liquid of an egg and is tough on your teeth! I’m also over being charged $4 for an egg. Thank you...
