Kokomo Haircutters — Local services in Waitematā

I really don’t like writing bad reviews but the bad service I was given after 2 years of being a regular customer I want to share my experience. I saw another review on here saying how the lady at the desk was rude, and I would sadly say I have to agree. I’ve been at Kokomo quite a few times over two years and I’ve witnessed her be kind to most customers but just plain rude to others, and I was one of those unfortunately. A young female stylist there did great touch ups in blonde at my roots but the 2 times I asked for splices(chunky highlights) through my hair she gave me a complete different look to what the photos I showed her of what I wanted looked like. The only way we could correct the first time was to go over all of my roots again in bleach, she didn’t use foils though so I lost at least 30% of my hair - it just all fell out in clumps - due to over lapping bleach she did on my hair. The second time she attempted this look about 18 months later, she failed again and tried going in to correct it AGAIN but kept applying the bleach so I kept getting left with an orange band around my roots all over my head. When I asked to come in one more time to just bleach over the orange bits that were left in one area on the back of my head the lady at the desk said I was being ridiculous and refused to book me in again.

So they messed up my hair twice, and then told me I was being ridiculous to ask to have my orange roots fixed, whether I paid or not she refused to book me in again and called me ridiculous.

My initial experience with Mel was great. Then she left the salon and the replacement hairdresser was very inadequate with colour processes and styling. The coloured toner application was very patchy and the styling was reminiscent from the 1990s and a frizzy mess. Thank God I was going out that night.

I was exceptionally disappointed and upset.

The salon offered another appointment after I sent feedback. But they just tried to justify their hairdresser was not experienced in contemporary processes or styles.

They implied it was my fault they gave me someone not experienced and yet they had my past style and colour information in their files from Mel, so they knew what techniques would be required.

No way was...

Lovely friendly atmosphere and couldn't be happier with the result! I'm usually quite apprehensive about going to the hairdresser as I have such long and thick hair that I usually get charged an exorbitant amount of money or feel like the service is rushed towards the end, once they realise they have not allocated enough time for me.

Definitely not in this case! Very reasonably priced considering the work put in. Mikayla has the patience of a saint and listened to exactly what I wanted, and took her time making me feel super comfortable throughout the entire service. Thanks so much team. Will...
