The food was ok, not great. However the one star is for customer experience. Even though the place is small and casual, they don't have enough staff, so the service is slow.
Since the first interaction the staff made us feel uncomfortable and that it was a huge inconvenience letting our 4 year old daughter eat a piece of chicken in their establishment that they didn't sell to us while we eat the two noodles we ordered.
Things got worse as the staff became rude when we asked for a small empty bowl to share noodles with our toddler. Staff was beyond unprofessional, laughing at our concerns and manager was far from apologetic for the poor customer service and seem inadequate for handling this situation.
As a world traveler and foodie this was by far one of the worst experience I had in a restaurant. We come from California, which is very far away and we are visiting Auckland for only a couple days so we are only having 3-4 restaurant picks to enjoy Auckland's culinary experience and to think we spend our money and precious limited time vacation being mistreated by the staff in this place, it is demoralizing.
However, I am hopeful that this review may help you save you from a bad experience especially if you have limited time in the city. There are many other options, I would stay away...
Read moreWhile exploring Ponsonby market, my girlfriend and I decided to try out proper ramen for the first time at Chop Chop. We were already very impressed with the atmosphere of the market, so went in with high spirits and expectations and were very happy with our choice in the end!
We were happily greeted by a bartender who was quick to grab us some beers who was followed by a server to take our orders. Certainly an extra point goes to Chop Chop for asking about dietary restrictions, to which my girlfriend actually had to change her order after learning that a salad dressing was not vegan. Truly the first restaurant we've every been to that made a point to ask!
The atmosphere is very dimly light and replicates a busy, almost downtown style ramen stand atmosphere in the best of ways. We could watch our food being prepared and got to listen to the cheesy (but greatly atmospheric) classic country-rock music to complete the scene.
Both my traditional ramen and my girlfriends miso ramen were excellent. The pork was immaculately cooked and, although a tad over salted, may have been the most tender I've ever had. Generous servings and I feel as though it was reasonably priced for the style of restaurant and clear quality of food.
Overall a great place to stop in and have a meal! Would...

We waited for half an hour for our two ramen bowls and we arrived early (before peak dinner time). We should’ve just left after we saw groups who were seated waaay after us get their food before us.
Short story is the girl forgot to put our order through, yet she had the audacity to make up excuses and lie to our faces! The girl did not even apologise when she served our food; she was smiling as if everything was going splendidly well. If she had offered a sincere apology, that would’ve been perfectly fine. Everyone makes mistakes, right? But to be lied to (and it was obvious she was lying) was shocking and almost laughable. Hope she remembers that lying = bad, telling the truth = good!
When we paid our bill, the guy didn’t even ask how our meal was. He just took our money and turned his back to serve the next victim, oh I mean a customer!
Going out for a meal nowadays is very expensive. I expect good food and good service for my hard-earned money. Sadly, that’s not the case with Chop Chop last night.
I don’t think we will be returning to Chop Chop anytime soon. We should’ve just gotten takeaways from our local shops who are much...
