The food was ok, not great. However the one star is for customer experience. Even though the place is small and casual, they don't have enough staff, so the service is slow.

Since the first interaction the staff made us feel uncomfortable and that it was a huge inconvenience letting our 4 year old daughter eat a piece of chicken in their establishment that they didn't sell to us while we eat the two noodles we ordered.

Things got worse as the staff became rude when we asked for a small empty bowl to share noodles with our toddler. Staff was beyond unprofessional, laughing at our concerns and manager was far from apologetic for the poor customer service and seem inadequate for handling this situation.

As a world traveler and foodie this was by far one of the worst experience I had in a restaurant. We come from California, which is very far away and we are visiting Auckland for only a couple days so we are only having 3-4 restaurant picks to enjoy Auckland's culinary experience and to think we spend our money and precious limited time vacation being mistreated by the staff in this place, it is demoralizing.

However, I am hopeful that this review may help you save you from a bad experience especially if you have limited time in the city. There are many other options, I would stay away...

While exploring Ponsonby market, my girlfriend and I decided to try out proper ramen for the first time at Chop Chop. We were already very impressed with the atmosphere of the market, so went in with high spirits and expectations and were very happy with our choice in the end!

We were happily greeted by a bartender who was quick to grab us some beers who was followed by a server to take our orders. Certainly an extra point goes to Chop Chop for asking about dietary restrictions, to which my girlfriend actually had to change her order after learning that a salad dressing was not vegan. Truly the first restaurant we've every been to that made a point to ask!

The atmosphere is very dimly light and replicates a busy, almost downtown style ramen stand atmosphere in the best of ways. We could watch our food being prepared and got to listen to the cheesy (but greatly atmospheric) classic country-rock music to complete the scene.

Both my traditional ramen and my girlfriends miso ramen were excellent. The pork was immaculately cooked and, although a tad over salted, may have been the most tender I've ever had. Generous servings and I feel as though it was reasonably priced for the style of restaurant and clear quality of food.

Overall a great place to stop in and have a meal! Would...

Good food; Disappointing service

We waited for half an hour for our two ramen bowls and we arrived early (before peak dinner time). We should’ve just left after we saw groups who were seated waaay after us get their food before us.

Short story is the girl forgot to put our order through, yet she had the audacity to make up excuses and lie to our faces! The girl did not even apologise when she served our food; she was smiling as if everything was going splendidly well. If she had offered a sincere apology, that would’ve been perfectly fine. Everyone makes mistakes, right? But to be lied to (and it was obvious she was lying) was shocking and almost laughable. Hope she remembers that lying = bad, telling the truth = good!

When we paid our bill, the guy didn’t even ask how our meal was. He just took our money and turned his back to serve the next victim, oh I mean a customer!

Going out for a meal nowadays is very expensive. I expect good food and good service for my hard-earned money. Sadly, that’s not the case with Chop Chop last night.

I don’t think we will be returning to Chop Chop anytime soon. We should’ve just gotten takeaways from our local shops who are much...

I came here after seeing all the highly rated reviews but I ended up being a little disappointed at the taste of the ramen and the chefs of this resto. The crispy chicken ramen was $19 so i consider it to be on the pricier side if u compare it with the other ramen restos at CBD. They give a lot of toppings in the ramen, I think I got 3 to 4 pieces of chicken and 1 whole egg which is nice but the ramen noodles were factory made(pretty sure) and the soup was salty and just average. They put a slice of butter on top of the soup which quickly melts and that makes the soup even more unenjoyable to eat. But I guess some people who like thick and salty broths could like it. Sitting at the high chair, I was able to see the chefs cook at the open kitchen and they looked like they kinda hated doing their job as they worked like no one could see them. Tired, bored, uninterested and emotionless. Hopefully they're okay and they were jst having a tiring day. The restos atmosphere is really nice so if you like Japanese ramen with thick n well seasoned broth with lots of meat and toppings then I think you'll like this place! They also offer lots of drink options so that's great too.

Been wanting to try here for awhile. Waited for like over 5 minutes by the sign and was left unattended. So we went in and talked to the waitress and eventually was seated. We ordered the pork, beef brisket and the jerk chicken ramen. But it did take a long time before we were being served. The food came after 10 to 15 minutes which was reasonable. The pork topping was not bad, the beef brisket was quite dry. The chicken was the best for me, the broth and the ramen noodle was quite good tasting. However, without naming who, I saw one of the staff touching raw chicken and then went to wash hands for a very short while then went and start doing other things. They were normally dealing with making donburis and bao bun which involves a lot of hand contact without gloves, this put me off by a lot as I have pretty high standard of food hygiene being a cook myself. Lucky the ramen was cooked by another person, but given service level and just average food, I will probably pass on coming back.
