Gilli Café — Restaurant in Waitematā

This was probably the worst cafe i've ever encountered. from the google map images, it seemed like an ordinary nice cafe people would go to. when we first went, not single one of the waiters helped us with our seat, and we were wandering around. There were some empty seats, and we asked one of the waiters where we could sit. They told us to wait for them to cleanthe table and so we did. After they cleaned the table they put a reservation sign on the table which confused us. They werent doing anything to help us guide to our seat, until we told them, and that's when they started to rearrange the seats so 2 of us could fit. this isn't even the worst part honestly, it was the food. my friend got a berry smoothie and it tasted very weird. this was probably the first red flag we shouldve noticed, but we ignored it and waited for our food. when my friend got her avacado toast, she saw a bug fly out of it which disgusted her, making her not be able to finish her food. the toast was very mid anyway lol. if ur reading this please never get the benedict's egg salmon or whateverits called. first wheen i got it there wee single strands of broccoli and whatever the other thing was. they probably tried to make it look gourmet but the food itself did not cover for that. when i had my first bite it was ok, not what i expected but it wasnt bad. however, when i had a bite of that salmon, it was the most atrocious and disgusting thing ive ever had. i expected fresh, creamy salmon, yet i got this gross, saggy, unappetising thing instead. this experience was so traumatising we left straight away without even finishing our plates. it's still shocking how all this combined was over 50 dollars. it was a waste of money, and we got pretty annoyed with it afterwards. I suggest to employ more waiters, or employees since the place is big, yet there are not enough waiters to...

We came to this place excited with the kids for the playground. We went in ordered the food and asked the lady to cleaned up the table upstairs so we can have our meal while the kids play in the playground. She said ok will do it later. Understood and so we waited patiently upstairs for them to cleaned up the table. One waitress came upstairs with our drinks, told me to hold onto the drinks first when I told her no one have cleaned the table so we have nowhere to sit. She told us to just hold onto the drink for now or put it on the playground. Ok so we thought they will at least clean the table before the food arrive. But no, when the food arrived, told us to leave them on top of the shoes shelf outside the playground. She claimed that she’s too busy today when the cafe was only half filled (less than half). They could have simply cleaned up the table then go back down to take the dishes out to the customers. Definitely not busy enough to can’t just do a table clean up for less than 5 mins. Rude as customer service. And false advertising about having meals next to the playground. We live far away and drove all the way there, disappointing service and rude as attitude. Will not be back and will tell all our friends how bad your services were.

Awful from start to finish! I had booked online but when we arrived they had not reserved a table for us. Luckily there was one available but it was dirty and we had to clear the dishes to another table next to us that was free (this table became a clearing table for other patrons that cleared dishes to get a table). We didn't see any staff clear or clean any tables the whole 2 hours we were there. There was food all over the floor, it was disgusting. When ordering the lady advised a 30minute wait (reasonable for a busy lunch rush), however we waited over an hour for our food. It came out barely warm. I ordered the avocado on toast which was a light slather of over ripe brown avocado on a piece of untoasted sour dough, no amount of salt and pepper could hide the taste. The only good meal was the omelet, however it turns out we were given someone from another tables omelet, as another one turned up with all our other meals 30 minutes later. If you are a parent and are coming here for the playground, the wait on food and lack of service and cleanliness, is not worth it. Go somewhere else for a quick bite and visit...
