Tombo Buffet — Restaurant in Waitematā

Unfortunately a rather average first experience there. As a table of 2, we got seated near the buffet and so had people bumping into us all night. The staff didn't really explain how it all worked, so we missed out on the hotpot option when they changed our table setup back to BBQ only. The selection of meats is great, but unfortunately a number of the seafood and vegetable dishes weren't labelled, so we had no way of knowing what they were. We never got to place drinks orders and even though we asked for water for the table twice, they never brought any out. I'm sure most regulars enjoy it there, but as first-time customers it put us off wanting to go back. Did not enjoy our dining experience here. It's too cramped the seating is not spaced out we were tripping over seats and saw other people tripping up from the small spaces between the tables. You can only go up one by one and there's a $5 surcharge if you waste food. We were only seated for about half n hour before a staff member approached us surprised we were eating dessert already as if she had been monitoring how much we are eating. She then wanted us to get up and move to another table to cater to another group and swiftly removed our cooker. They gave us cups but we had to ask for water. They have crammed as much tables in that small space to make more money. Not safe from covid so enter at your own risk. Won't be coming back staff are like helicopters hovering over you. One of the best Korean/ Japanese buffet restaurants I've been to so far. They've got cooked food prepared buffet style (sushi, ribs, rice, noodles, shrimps deep fried veggies and a lot more) while you cook your bbq and/or make your hotpot. So many options to choose from - soups, meats, cooked food, veggies, side dishes and even unlimited ice cream! Really good customer service too- staff are polite and courteous. The restaurant can get really packed so I'd recommend calling in to book a table prior. Also, be careful not to park at the parking lot next to it as it is a 24/7 tow away area (we ended up in the tow company on our first visit and paid around $300
