Very Central in Kilbirnie, the closest to the bus S with the best decore which is slightly tired but not as tired as the other places in Kilbirnie. Food is mainly bakery food with large portions and a great range. Free main tomatoe & hot sauces, no Lea and P sauce or hot sweet spicy sauces. They have a limited breakfast menu of eggs, omelette, scrambled eggs using caged hen eggs. Scrambled eggs and ground beef on toast although not listed on the black board menu. Although it is not listed they do mince on toast or not on toast that is moist with a topping at no extra cost providing it is not a expensive ingredient for those who do not want to eat processed food loaded with sodium / salt. I chose cheese which was a mild cheese and asked for it to be melted after it was delivered by the male owner who Hassel free returned to the kitchen to melt the cheese topping returned it with a pleasant smile & a respectfully acknowledgement nod. Gryeur or a soft cheese is a preferable cheese gryeur with it's unique flavour, which does not require as much cheese, in fact a third less. The plate was piping hot which allows one to attend to their cell phone or read the free morning newspaper. One choice of green salad only no discription what ingredience though. Reasonable price $6.50 cents, which is good to order with other choices. French fries available with one only choice dip sauce Aliol, in a large bowl at a more than reasonable price. A pity if you do not like Aliol sauce. Learnt no mung or other type sprouts, lentills or chick beans in keeping with the new emphasis on plant base alternative protein being advocated by dieticians and GP's as a better health diet for the middle to retired age demographic to help prevent heart attacks and strokes for protein. Their customer client includes a large number of middle age and retirees of all social enconomic demographics levels.Friendly staff although most times it appears they object going the extra distance when something extra is required and they let you know it & not to suttlely. Courtyard is not in keeping with the rest of the cafe. Plenty of room to expand the menu choices for those who do not want to eat 90 per cent butter bland pastries , sausage rolls, pies, dry scones, or those who do not want to consume caged hen egg food, which includes all their sammies, filled rolls, cakes the bearnaise & hollindaise sauce, on their poached eggs dishes, saturated fat and sodium / salt in the ham , the other processed meat fillings, tomatoe sauce.Surprising no simple desserts which is / was disappointing as a brunch option or food choices. Do have a variety of filled paninis. Toasted sandwiches made in proper appliance not a bread sandwhich squassed on the griill to toast. Likewise omellets, pan made and under the salandmander with filling then turned flat style omellete. Not done on the greasy grill where all other grill orders have been made especially bacon. Not done though in a special omellette pan or microwave omellette dish to make a thick omellette that is throughly cooked and not a partially cooked center. Eggs are not free range hen eggs, nor barn hen eggs. Seating comfortable, clean roomy tables with options. Street tables, chairs, which are old and tired. inside portion, window street view seating. Did not find their sandwiches pricey as one must take into account that they do not use white bread @ $1 per load. Most other places use white bread and for toast including super markets. Light / lamp shades bulbs need replacing and inside cleaned as some are filled with years of dead insects. Door to courtyard glass looks like it has not been cleaned for ages which also leads to toilets. Hate to think what the toilet door handles are like. Not BPA plastic free sauce bottle forks knifes spoons and their T / A coffee lids are not BAP plastic free. Hot food and drinks should b BPA plastic free otherwise u will b consuming unhealthy micro plastics & other chemicals with the...
Read moreSorry I can't give it a higher rating as I have to be honest. Though the customer service was great & the lady behind the counter was an absolute darling & she was accommodating of my requests (I suffer from allergies and certain food intolerance) & gladly answered all my questions, I can't say the same for the quality of food. If I could give the eggs florentine a zero, I would. I think the cook poached the eggs in vinegar with a little water instead of water with a little vinegar. As soon as the server brought the food, my friend & I smelt the overpowering sourness from the vinegar & after tasting a tiny bit, it was so gross. The vinegar smell & taste permeated even the thick pile of bland spinach & soggy toast. What a waste of money. Gluten free food can taste great, I hope the cook learns how to do it right. Great customer service but sadly horrible food so we won't be...
Read moreI've been going here occasionally over the last 5 years. It's always busy but you can generally find a seat. There is a courtyard space at the back and last I know you could still have a ciggie there. It's not overly clean (as most of Wellington) but I've always had yummy drinks and food. The service has always been fine but never that warm and friendly stand out service that you get at some places - they are quite fast though so that makes up. I'll still continue going there because it's at a convenient location and not overpriced and a...
