Vietnamese food in New Zealand often ends up heavily “Kiwi-fied” to the point it barely resembles actual Vietnamese cuisine. Unfortunately, this spot is a prime example.
The food truck that used to be here, Banh Mi Delight, was far superior, not only in quality but also in the warmth of the owner. Now, with Banh Mi Delicious, the food has dropped drastically. The banh mi was undersized, and that might have been forgivable if the filling were good. It wasn’t. The pâté tasted watered down, the mayonnaise was bland, and the bread was burnt to the point of crumbling apart as soon as I picked it up.
On top of that, I have a mint allergy. I made it clear when ordering the fresh spring rolls: if they couldn’t be made without mint, I was happy to choose another dish. The staff assured me it would be fine, but the rolls still came loaded with mint. One bite in and I was swelling up, while the server simply shook her head instead of offering any help.
Overall a horrible experience. If you want a real banh mi, Banh Mi Delight in Avondale is far better and not much...
Read moreIt's a food truck outside Lynmall, opposite to the New Lynn library. I came here as this place is mentioned in some forum that they have the best banh mi, also they sell the typical Vietnam dishes such as noodle salad, noodle soup, fresh spring roll.
the Pork Banh mi roll was very delicious, bun was crispy outside but not that tough to cut your lips or tongue, inside is very soft and warm, nicely seasoned. Comparing to other places that are charging $16-$20 for one, it's only $13.00 here.
There is a couple of chairs and a table by the truck if you want to have it there.
A few 5 mins only parking spaces nearby, a bit further down the road there is the Mcdonald car park if no luck. Come out through the small road between library and Mcdonald will get you quickly back to the...
Read moreYUM! we got the lemongrass beef aswell as the pork and ham banh mi's and they were delicious, fresh, well portioned and such a good price ($13 each!!). Highly reccomened this place if youre wanting something warm, healthy and cheap to eat. They are in a food truck along the outside of Lynn Mall so make sure to keep an eye out! P.S if youre like my partner and hate corriander, make sure you ask to remove it from any of the Banh Mi's as they stuff it into the rolls alongside the other ingredients (rather than putting it on top) which according to my partner did make the whole thing taste like soap even when we picked it out (but im not complaining as I got to eat...
