. (01/2018) A beautiful park conveniently located in New Lynn with entrances from different roads. There is interesting history behind this park and the railway track alongside. The wood from very first bridge is still preserved in form of a beautiful Timber Bridge sculpture near Olympic Park Velodrome. More information around the park history is provided on a board around near the entrance from Portage road. The park is clearly divided into different sections including a playground for children, Velodrome, Badminton court, soccer & athletics and spider sanctuary. This park is dog friendly. There is, in fact, a dedicated dog run section. Waitahurangi stream passes through the middle of this park and there is dedicated viewing area provided to enjoy this stream. This stream connects to Whau stream at one end. The views around streams are incredible. There are multiple artworks installed throughout the park including many amazing sculptures and structures. Some of them are Hinaki, Art Bridge, Crossroads, Pou and Waka with Waitahurangi stream connecting all of them. The tracks around this park are well maintained. Seating and benches are provided at regular distances for taking rest and enjoying the views. A good place to enjoy on a sunny or clear day. Good for groups, kids, families, meditation and quick visits. Due to central location, it can get busy around evening. Easily approachable from different roads and conveniently accessible. Spacious parking areas are provided around different entrances at regular distances from different direction and roads. Ample parking space is available at all the parking locations. Read moreOlympic Park offers a great outing. It has different play areas for the kids, and some amazing sculptures and art installations by local artists hidden throughout the expansive park. There are benches along the way, it's paved/wooden walkway throughout (so pushchair friendly), and mostly level. There are some beautiful kowhai flowers and a tree with twisted branches. I saw a mamma duck and her ducklings and some fluffy chooks. The downside is that the gates are closed because of L3. If you enter from Portage Road, you have to go over the bridge and the water stinks of raw sewage. If you enter from Wolverton (where there are yellow lines and no parking, good for drop offs), then you can avoid that.
